Going dry.
Australias main river system is going dry. The Murray/Darling Rivers. This would be like the Mississippi river in the US going dry.

Is it going dry because of "overuse" or has the climate changed and it's not getting the rain it needs to replenish itself?

Alasse,
It bucketed here last night, and we're still a month away from the monsoon.

It's snow that you don't have to shovel.

Too bad those icebergs that are floating around can't be utilized to add to the water level!

We got a bit i must say, but nowhere near enough, our dams are sitting at around 19%
We are all hanging for your monsoon season...we're hoping to get some tailend stuff, enough to up the dams significantly

We have had rain here for the last two days. There is a man made creek by us here. It has been flowing almost to the top with water for the last day. The water runs into a man made bay that rich folks park their yachts in. Go figure!

you guys have been enduring a drought for such a long time. be it overuse, natural climactic change or a combo, i wonder if it's ever going to be reversable. i hope so.
are there many desal plants in australia? i know it ain't exactly cost effective but i've heard that in addition to the drought, the water is sorta brackish.

I have to own up. It is all the showers Kathy and I are having after sex that has used up all the water!

wyndhy,
They're talking about desal, but power requirements v CO2 emissions dictate nuclear plants which we have managed to avoid so far.
