I'm just doing my research . . . it looks like I'm getting awfully close to surgery . . .

I've got an appointment on the 26th with one of the best surgeons in Toronto to get this bloody knee fixed (for those of you who don't know, I 'broke' the most important ligament in my left leg playing soccer last year- the anterior cruciate ligament).

I'm reading internet boards about the injury and it's scary but good. I know my leg will be better afterwards but I'm scared about the time it will take to heal . . .

surgery stories, anyone?

I know it's not a serious injury but my knee is missing its important 'balancer' and getting surgery will help prevent arthritis.

I guess I associate Pixies and my ACL because it 'disappeared' around the same time I joined here. I still get PMs from people wondering if it's fixed . . .

So, surgery might be within the next few months and I LOVE YOU GUYS!

Don't have any personal experiences with knee surgery, but I hope that you find the best solution to your problem, whether it involves going under the knife or not. It seems like I have heard that knee surgery is getting less invasive all the time, and recovery time is even quicker now...

Steph one of the guys I work with is a motorcycle racer. He told me he'd had both his knees done through the years and wouldn't trade it for anything. We were discussing it because my daughter needs it too. He says the last time he went to the Dr's. office on crutches and left walking. I thought that was pretty amazing.
Anyway, you be sure and tell those Drs. to be extra careful. Your legs have lots of fans. (did I mention I'm running for president of the fan club?) Best of luck Hon and as always, the family's here for Ya.

I remember you telling me about it Steph, I havent had any surgery done except for a vasectomy lol, so that is not something that could ever happen to you .

I think that it is best that you get it fixed though and my thoughts and best wishes will be with you

No experience, and no stories to tell, except that the knee is the STUPIDEST joint in the body.

So easy to stuff up, so hard to replace!!

Good luck with the surgery, let us know how it goes, and stop kneeing people in the groin all the time! You'll only make it worse!!!

My son had his right knee done just about a year ago, and the procdure was, thank heavens, straightforward. he has not had any difficulties since.

Steph, I don't have any experience with knee surgery ... but I do know that my wife and I'll be saying prayers for you and hope all goes well. Be sure to let us know when the surgery will be. No doubt that everything will end up okay.

My father-in-law had knee surgery and although the recovery time seemed long........he's more the better now and doing just great! You are much younger than him and so I know you'll have an easier time of it. He says it's the best thing he could have done......if that's any help!

I've had both knees scoped (3 years apart) from trying to play ball in High School.
The best advice I can give is to follow your physical therepy to the letter. I had no problems with my right knee when I did. I wasn't as strict with my left and it still acts up every now and then.

It doesn't seem that long ago tearing ACL would mean the end of a footballers (soccer players) career but now most seem to be back playing in next to no time.

Here we go!

Off on Thursday to get her repaired. They're "harvesting" my hamstring to add to my ACL. Craziness, I say! I'll be hopped up on morphine and am facing months of physio but I've got John Mayer and Pixies.

Good luck Steph. I don't think you'll need it though. With the shape you're in you'll do fine, and who can't enjoy a little time off work? Hmmmmmm my left knee could use a tune up you need a training partner?
