PF, glad to hear that your son is on the road to recovery. With broken ribs and a punctured diaphragm he will probable have trouble breathing for awhile. Hope his recovery is swift and he gets back to normal as soon as possible. You take care of yourself.

I am glad your son is off the respirator, that's a good thing, and I wish him as comfortable a time as possible during these long weeks (months?) of recovery. You and your family are in my thoughts, PF. If you need anything just holler, and as Scarecrow said, you take care of yourself

I told the Lost Kids today about a friend of mine and what happened to his brave police officer son. They send good vibes. Many of them want to be a cop until they find out the difference in pay between public service and drug dealing.

that's awful news (((pf))) my best wishes to your son and some extra good thoughts and determination for his tough (but certain) road to recovery. and a kiss

DB-get well soon bro'

i second the "enough already". i've been getting more than the usual run of bad news about friends and family over the last few weeks, too. and worse bad news than the usual run of just plain bad news. and many of the people i know have been told worse than usual news in recent weeks. it's almost weird, like there's been a shift. sounds like a King plot but still, i wonder if the turtle moved or something. sometimes it seems like even the law of averages is out to get you and yours.

Teddy is home and doing well from both the leg infection and the prior brain surgery. We are all happy to hear they smashed the infection ..........(again)......... in quick order this time. Now they are looking for a good electrician to make the connections now that she has everything packed in and the zippers are staying shut.

DB also called to ask about my son and said he expects to be going for some out-patient surgery in the next few weeks. He expects to be home in the next couple days and will post detail then.

The news for my son is coming slow now (or seems to be that way) as everything is "stable". They are considering possibly moving him from IC to a step-down unit if all conditions continue to improve as expected. He's a cop with more drugs in him than the junkies he normally deals with but not enjoying it at all. The sore and pain are very real and are going to be for a while at the least. I will find out tomorrow when the next key evaluation or tests or whatever are going to be done on the various injuries.

It doesn't seem like this has only been two days.

Just got home from the hospital. In the course of doing the tests, what they found was a tumor on my colan. Good news is that there are stong indications that it's a recent development and probably hasn't spread. I'll see my surgeon on this coming Wednesday and will probably be back in surgery in the next week or two. Thank God they at least found what the problem was. It was only by chance that I let my cardiologist know about my shortness of breath causing the tests to be done in the first place.

Any good thoughts are appreciated and Mrs. and I are still planning on PAGAN 09 and a nephew's wedding this weekend in Chicago. We're in good spirits and very optimistic.

Want very much to thank PF for briefing you guys on what happened and his son continues in our daily prayers. PF, you're a good friend ... thank you.

DB

PF, thank you for the latest update, I'm glad Teddy's infection was zapped. It sounds like it will be a long, hard, painful slog for your son to be fit again and all we can do is keep him and you in our thoughts

Dicksbro, great to see you back posting and thank you for your update. I wish you all the best for a positive meeting with your surgeon and good results from the subsequent surgery. You're in my thoughts, and you're missed when you're not here

((((db)))) I'm praying that nothing has spread and you'll be in and out of surgery quickly and safely with a speedy recovery.

You have my sympathies...coupla yrs back, I had just a few moments when I believed my son's life might be in the balance, turned out to be nothing more than an anxiety attack...but that relief did not mitigate the grey hairs I acquired in the interim, & the few minutes of doubt felt like hours, & prob took as much off of my lifespan. Hang in there, the highly imperfect human body is never so miraculous as when it pulls itself back together after a disaster.

Thank you Scotz, and all the good wishes from Aqua to Zoid. Times like these are when Pixies provides a place to sort your thoughts. There has been a time warp without a doubt and my son's gravity is what bent time. The past three days that has been a month at least, has actually been full of miracles. The blunt reminder of how fragile we really are has also demonstrated our ability to survive, salvage and repair. Still the model for every innovation we think we are developing. Early this morning he was moved to the step-down unit, his cathedra was taken out and by this afternoon therapy showed up and had him move to the edge of the bed and get upright on one leg, and back down. This was astonishing after sitting up was impossible 36 hours earlier. He is able to talk (softly) and hold a thought outside of himself and the pain.

A lesson for myself has been that their are things we just can not prepare for. I am aware of the profession he is in but that's not enough even after you tell yourself you have considered the reality. I found this similar to the passing of my mother a year and a half ago. It was a very natural and understood matter for a failing 87 year old woman and you know you are going to get that call someday. When it comes you will be sad but ready.

You are never ready!
