Petticoat Junction

Who remembers this show?

I've started dating a guy who compared my life in my Toronto neighbourhood to this sitcom. He turned 57 today but my 77-year-old friend doesn't remember the show. The show totally fits the gossipy bill of my neighbourhood.

I'm just curious to see who may remember the show and perhaps whom else lives in such a neighbourhood.

I used to watch it myself. Hooterville ... wow ... hadn't even thought about that for a long time!

I remember watching this show.

I don't think that Petticoat Junction represents our neighborhood. Although we can hear the train going through and there is corn around our property.

I'm sure you've seen the entry, Steph, but here.

Apparently the season ran 1963-1970, so I would've been too young to see it initially. However, I do remember watching the occasional rerun, of which our local TV station felt it appropriate to pair it with "Green Acres."

I didn't see the IMDB link but I did read the Wikipedia one. The guy who mentioned it told me it was related to the Beverly Hillbillies. I guess he was close but no cigar. At least now I know when he was talking about Hooterville, he wasn't talking about my ta tas.

I'm surprised Lil has seen it. Then again, I was surprised that my almost 80-year-old friend hasn't seen it.

At least, you don't *think* he was talking about your ta tas. Maybe he was using the show as a cover.

Green Acres was a spin-off from Petticoat Junction.

I think there was a cross-over when Lester Flatt and Ernie Scruggs visited Petticoat Junction and talked of the Beverley Hillbillies.

Scruggs and Flatt did the Beverley Hillbilly theme (the Ballad of Jed Clampett) as well as "Duelling Banjos".

Come ride a little train that is going down the track
To the Junction,
Petticoat Junction.

Yep, I watched it when I was a kid. I didn't realize until today that I would've been watching reruns though.

There's Uncle Joe, he's a moving kinda slow at the Junction. Petticoat Junction.

Here's the song:

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/sounds...tion1st1963.wav

It's quite catchy!

And the site does say it was a spin-off of the Hillbillies http://timstvshowcase.com/junction.html

Off to listen to the song again! Now the question is, who's the Dean Martin sound-alike who sang the theme?
