Opera great Luciano Pavarotti died this morning of pancreatic cancer at his home in the Italian city of Modena. He was 71 years old.

He performed many tenor roles during his forty years career, but many people first became aware of him with two other opera tenors, Placido Domingo and Jose Carerras in the “Three Tenors” concerts.

“Nessun Dorma”, the official theme song of the 1990 Football World Cup, from Puccini’s “Turandot” was part of Pavarotti's final performance.

A truly outstanding artist whose opera and classical song enriched the lives of millions around the world.
