Transitions — Luciano Pavarotti
Opera great Luciano Pavarotti died this morning of pancreatic cancer at his home in the Italian city of Modena. He was 71 years old.
He performed many tenor roles during his forty years career, but many people first became aware of him with two other opera tenors, Placido Domingo and Jose Carerras in the “Three Tenors” concerts. “Nessun Dorma”, the official theme song of the 1990 Football World Cup, from Puccini’s “Turandot” was part of Pavarotti's final performance. A truly outstanding artist whose opera and classical song enriched the lives of millions around the world. Farewell sir. Many, many thanks! |
That's very sad. What a marvelous voice he had.
|
The chorus of Nessun Dorma in English was,
"No one will know his name And we must, alas, die". I suspect that's no longer true, at least the first part. |
a true legend and one who helped break the opera "barrier" into mainstream music - he will be greatly missed
|
It is sad to see his passing, though he has left a mighty legacy and will be remembered long after most of us are forgotten.
Rest in peace, Mr Pavarotti. |
A man who helped bring Opera to the masses
R.I.P. Mr Pavarotti |
I watched today in horror fearing his 14 pall bearers, who were struggling terribly trying to carry his coffin, would drop him. The sunflowers covering his casket were beautiful.
|
I was floored by his passing. Dunno why because I never saw a performance by him. His iconic status I guess.
RIP..... |
