I was chatting with a Pixie that says she needs to stay away from eBay because there are too many things she wants.

So how many Pixie shop on eBay? Is it a regular place for you to look for some things? How do you do your bidding on auction items? Have you basically been pleased with the results?

Myself-

I do find it a good place for a lot of things and have basically been very pleased. Not everything on there is a super deal. Some are if you can get them at the right price. Of the 67 items I've won, I've only been disappointed with a couple small ones. I do worse than that when I'm buying at a store. LOL I find most descriptions and ratings pretty accurate. I won't deal with any seller having less than a 99% satisfaction score. I read listings VERY closely and consider the shipping as part of the max bid I'll make. I'm not afraid to ask the seller questions about anything not clear.

One good thing of online shopping is that I can do in-depth price comparison and product research as I shop. When I decide what price will make it a good deal, that will be my one and only bid. I'm a 'sniper' and get a nut sliding in at the last second ..........literally. I work with two windows and a timer. One has my bid ready to confirm while I refresh for transmission lag time and other bids. I try to get in the last 5 seconds and usually am 3 or less, even when I'm the only bidder. I'm sure I've cause more than one smashed keyboard. My biggest jolly was one I got by one penny and at one second before ending.

When the item is something actually 'need', I'll pay up to 75% what I have to give over the counter (including sales tax). On something I 'could' use if I had it, the top is 50%. I won't pay more than 1/3 for something that is just neat and I like.

So who else is satisfied with eBay?

Yep. Started buying off ebay just this year but have been successful more often than not. Typically I start with as low a bid as possible ... then place a max bid that equates to the most I'd pay for whatever it is. Technique has worked for me.

I have been a long time seller and buyer. I sold my jewelry on there long ago, as well as knick knacks amd household items, kids clothes too. I have been more disappointed selling than buying. I have done pretty well buying. The flute was a great deal once the seller backed up his auction. I am currently scouring eBay for a French Horn but have trouble buying big ticket items I have not personally touched and inspected.

I bought a trombone on there once

I think I've bought about 8 items in the past 5 years...but some of them have been big ticket (for me) -- including my road bike. When it came to the road bike - I've somewhat regretted it. The bike had been ridden hard and I ended up doing a lot of repairs on it. It still needs a new replacement fork when I can see clear to spend the $$ (although I think we've altered the old one enough that it holds safely).

My purchase list: trombone, road bike, laptop for my mom, dishwasher adapter, book, DVD player, and two other purchases I don't remember. I also enjoy ogling eBay motors, although I have yet to buy a car there.

My latest purchase was a portable dishwasher adapter that links the sink to the dishwasher...I was having trouble finding my model offline.

Most of my 1100+ feedback rating (Red Star) came from selling rather than buying. I've sold more wooden spinners than I can count (but I'm pretty sure it's over 200), sold used books, mostly for $1, but once sold a 1931 ed. signed by the author for over $200, sold a USN flight jacket (no idea who that came from, father was US Army/Air force, & the jacket was too small to have come from one my linebacker-sized uncles) for over $400 (not to mention the $20-40 additional charge for shipping overseas), & i just came off a big weekend of wife's flower sales, well over $200, which gave me just enough to buy the refurb GPS unit I wanted/needed.

As a buyer, I'm very judicious, usually looking for cheap upgrades to my computer(s), altho I'm not quite as strict about the seller's FB as PF...as a seller myself, I know it's impossible to make everybody happy all the time...tho' the new FB calculation method by eBay has me back up to 100% again...

Some stuff is a real bargain at eBay, which I love as a buyer & despise as a seller, but in the area of real collectible items is a place where angels fear to tread...collectible musical instruments is a real nightmare, I've been looking for an extra amp head to match my vintage Sunn stacks, & I get pushed aside by the deep-pocket bidders every single time...

I believe the answer is yes...we had at least 2-3 transactions, & under the new rules, they should all count now...

I'm even more sure that a former sprite-ly member & I exchanged positive FB...poor girl, I think she spent more on intl. shipping than the spinner itself...

I'm a new ebay purchaser. Had an account for at least 4 years before I did anything with it, other than browse.

Since my first purchase this spring I've made 4 or 5 transactions, al purchases.

I'm not sure that:
A) I have anything someone wants to buy, and B) I want the responsibility of being a seller.


I'm currently looking for discount prices on Newt Gingrich historical fiction books.......

But the spinner is gorgeous and it's hanging in my parents' living room!

I've never sold anything on eBay, but I have bought quite a few things, though mostly beads, and never anything horribly expensive. My sister did buy an electric piano off it though (to ship from Toronto we just got a trucker from home to put it in his 18-wheeler as he was bringing back the shipment of flowers he goes there for weekly). I don't go there often, since there's too many things I want when I see them, but I like to look for books relating to my work.

A) You don't know what people want to buy until you put it up for sale...after nearly nine years at it, I get surprised once in a while, and B) It is a big responsibility, but basically if you're right up front & honest about your merchandise, you'll do ok.

I Ebay. Buy and sell. Sold some jewelry, some coins, odds and ends - and true story - some dog fur! (Listed it as a joke...but it got bought. Dog at the time, shed something fierce, so I thought what the hell).

I buy things that interest me. Old books. Movies. Toys for the kids etc.

I use to ebay alot. Went to department stores got the really deep clearance items and posted them on ebay for twice as much. If it didn't sell, I returned it to the store for a refund. It was all good until someone got mad because they found it in their local store for less. The negative feedback by that person was just harsh I mean really demeaning. I tried to get ebay to delete it, but no luck. No one bought anything for the next two months. Haven't gone back since.

This is how I bid too, unless there are other bidders. Then I lay in the low grass and wait until the end and try to snipe it.
