Tax Refund

Rumor has it that Americans are getting @$600 a piece back from the government. I bet that GW and our friend Bernake are hoping we choose to spend every penny.

What are you planning on doing with your $600? Spend or save?

As for those foreigners who aren't as lucky as us Americans (note tone of irony here) -- if you had an unexpected $600 windfall, what would you do with it?

I'm an unlucky American, I will not be receiving any of the Economic Stimulus Plan rebate. Thus, I'll be spending my usual income instead in my normal manner.

But, if I were an American that was receiving a check, I'd probably use it to buy some of the things I could use for the house... or gas.. or insurance... or car payment... or electric bill... or the list goes on.

I'm just a dumb working person, not a economic/finance major, investment banker or Wall Street speculator. I think I'll take my $US 600 and buy Krugerrands, Euros or maybe some Aussie or Canadian dollars that GW, Bernake and the other money manipulators didn't make part of the $US 9.2 TRILLION (that's $9,200,000,000,000.00) debt.

oh heck if that's all it breaks down to, why doesn't everyone take out a little loan and buy out the government?

I still have a little trouble understanding this whole story of national debts
Who do they owe this money to?
No one I know is making interest on it...

Ah yes the Banks and Multinational Corporations
good thing there is ..... um ... um...

We've thought about taking our share ($600.00 x 2) and paying our real estate taxes.

Real irony would be to donate it to the Democrats!

Hey GW? Ever hear of too little-too late?????

My wife and I should be getting about $1500 because of the additional $300/child.

That money was going to go towards paying bills, but now it's going to be used to buy a new circuit breaker and run new Romex in our new house.

we'll use our rebate to pay school taxes. they're astronomical and we're not escrowed.

i read that the cost of the rebate (not including the actual rebate) is a whopping 42 million for the first round of letters that say the rebate WILL be coming, another 50 million or so to mail the actual rebates and an estimated 50million to deal with phone calls from dumb asses who want to know when or if they'll get their rebate. christ on a crutch, that's retarded.

this isn’t free money, it’s loan sharking

It isn't even a real rebate or refund or what have you. What it is is essentially an advance on next year's anticipated refund.

So, next year, unless they decide to screw with the laws again, you'll just end up owing that money in the form of a reduced or non-existant refund.

I still have yet to hear a good explanation of what happens if you end up owing money on your taxes instead of getting a refund.

where did you hear that gg? i had wondered the same thing and thought it would be pretty bogus indeed so i did some digging and found this - "the 2008 stimulus payment will not reduce your refund or increase the amount you owe when you file your 2008 return." (according to the irs website)

and as for owing on your 2007 return, i've read on the same IRS website that you should file and pay as normal. do not wait because penalties and interest will accrue. the rebate is not set to go out til after may and taxes are due by april 15
