Unhappy Slam...crash...thud!

Right after I got off work today, I turned onto the main road infront of where I work. Well, I'm driving along, and go through an intersection. Right as I do...SLAM!! I'm hit head on on the drivers front corner of my Jeep. I had the green light and the right of way. The guy that hit me was in the turn lane and DID NOT even have a turn arrow, let alone a green light. He turned across 3 lanes of traffic. His little Ford Tempo was damaged a WHOLE LOT worse than my Jeep Grand Cherokee, it folded his front end under and punctured his radiator. My Jeep just got the front bumper ripped off, the headlight & fog light are gone on the drivers side and it pushed the body panel back to where it made the door hard to open. The cops were really nice, luckily there were TONS of witnesses...2 of which gave their accounts...which matched my account of what happened. It's totally his fault. I have to go to court for it in January, but that's because we've been in the process of trying to get us some insurance again, and I didn't have any. We will shortly though. I'm making damn sure of it.

I've been so torn up, nerves wise this evening. I've done a TON of crying/shaking/etc. The adrenaline rush has since worn off and I'm starting to ache and hurt some. James keeps asking if I want to go to the ER just to get checked out. I'm more pissed though cause we still owe $4300 on that blasted Jeep and now we're short a vehicle again and CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER ONE!!!

Glad you're safe and sound but 2 things I learned from my accident a couple years ago:

1) Get physically checked within 24 hours of the accident by a Dr. You don't know what damage might have been caused by the shock of the accident - but if you wait longer, they might not accept any diagnosis.

2) If the accident was the other guys fault, not only should his insurance pay for your repairs, but they should also cover a rental car for you while yours is being fixed - I'd check into it...

Granted - I'm in Canada and the laws in the US might be different, but it's worth a shot to find out..

Keep feeling ok....

What ^^^ they ALL said!

Get yourself checked out, and talk to a lawyer. There's a ton of lawyers out there that don't charge for a consultation. Find yourself a decent ambulance chaser and he'll go after them.

Yes...you shouldn't have been driving without insurance. But a good lawyer should be able to show that that fact doesn't absolve the other driver of his responsibility.

I did go to the ER last night. I've got whiplash...I was given a shot in my ass of toradol for pain and robaxin as a muscle relaxer. I didn't get home til 445am est. needless to say, I did NOT go to work today. I'm actually excused by the doc thru thursday. But, depending on how I feel, depends on when I'll go back. I've also got prescriptions for the toradol, robaxin and one for ultram(another pain med). We're contacting his insurance company today. we're also, hopefully before today's out, going back to the wrecker service and taking pics with my digital camera. I was too torn up yesterday to even consider doing it with my camera phone..(was kicking myself about an hour later for not thinking of it...)

sorry about the whiplash - I had it too - if it's bad enough - the other guy's insurance should also cover physical therapy which I found very helpful....you don't want to leave it untreated....

make sure you got/get a written report from the doctor who saw you and keep copies of all the paperwork from the police, the dr., the insurance companies etc....

seeing as it was his fault, his company should also pay for the therapy....

I've got the discharge papers from the ER stating I have whiplash...they call it Torticollis; additional diagnosis is back strain. And it states who I was treated by; what they gave me as prescriptions and who/when to follow up. I'm supposed to go see my general practitioner in 1-2 days.

Glad to hear you're safe!

You are most likely going to feel the after effects of this crash for many, many months... mayhaps for years. Do not be quick to sign off with the insurance company that you're a-ok, even though you may feel fine in six months. In eight months you just might find yourself hurting again.

Take it one day at a time and it'll all work out.
