Well, mine wasn't a '76 (it was a '78), but I had a Chevette. In fact, I took my driving test in one--manual steering, manual brakes and all. As the author says, nothing fancy, but that little car was reliable...and it even got to the point that you could listen to the radio without the keys anywhere near the ignition. Oh, the stories I could tell you about coming back from band trips late at night in it...

We had a Pinto wagon ... '72 I think. Bought it when I got transferred from Decatur to Peoria with my job so I could leave our other car with my wife. Got a lot of use out of that little car. I remember when we got it, the commercial was something like, "You can still get a great little car for under $2000."

I know of quite a number of them, and more than a few have been on various "I want" lists of mine over the years.
I do take exception to some being on this list, though, especially the Triumph Stag and Jag X-Type.
That's just me, though. I LIKE "dodgy" motors!!

My wife and I are both guilty of owning Explorers. Both the same color, only mine is two years older than hers. When I was looking for a car I really didn't want to be a minivan driving dad. I know that is all purely style over substance and I'm usually not like that, but in this case I succumbed to it. She liked mine and had a chance to get one really cheap so she did.

Nope, never owned any from the list. I did have a Vette though......... Chevette. It was a 1980 though.
And I was really hoping the Iron Duke Camaro would be on the list. To this day I still can't understand why they made that one. Thankfully that isn't the one I ended up with when I got mine. My baby was an '84 with the 5.0 liter high output engine and a 5-speed. Oh god, I loved that car!
Actually have a picture of her right after her winter waxing back in the day. My '80 Vette is parked right behind it.

I remember far too many of those but can't recall any being able to fall with resounding thud from the height of the hype as the 58 Edsel. The only thing that slowed the laughter and head banging for Corvair owners was the arrival of the Pinto in my area.

My mom had a pinto.. we loved it.
I had an '83 Chevette. It was an awesome car... ran it to death - had over 100,000 miles on it - I do miss that car.

One aunt of mine has owned a Pinto, a Pacer, a Gremlin AND a Chevette!
My father, however, has owned a Corvair and the prized 85 Yugo.
