Couple wed for the 120th time
(SF)
GALEN CULVER REPORTING
OKLAHOMA CITY -- Getting married is one of those once in a lifetime events, right? At least it's supposed to be. Unfortunately Oklahoma suffers one of the nation's worst divorce rates, but Galen Culver found a local couple who have ideas about how to change that. In fact he went to their wedding this morning.
Guests of the Curtis' wedding party didn't have to worry much about parking. Carol and Bill didn't send out any invitations. In fact there was only one guest and it wasn't a preacher. It was a photographer and he invited himself.
"You know that's very romantic," says Bill Curtis.
The Curtis' first wrote and performed these vows a decade ago. They liked the 20 minute ceremony so much they did it again a month later and then every month after that.
"Our love is a celebration every day," says 75-year-old Carol Curtis.
This would make their 120th wedding.
Bill proclaims, "After 120 times, God has planted it in our heart."
Both have been married before. "Twice each," they laugh nervously. Their spouses died or didn't work out. Bill and Carol found each other at a square dance and partnered off right away.
"We have young hearts in ‘luuuv,'" says Carol accenting the word love.
They still wear matching clothes every day right down to the socks wedding or not.
"It's tradition that the man is supposed to match the lady's square dance dress," explains Carol.
Their Oklahoma City house has become a kind of shrine to their love. It's filled with small, catchy gestures that take their places on every shelf, wall and stairway. Renewing their vows keeps them grounded in their faith say the Curtis'. They give Carol a chance to practice her singing and Bill a chance to try on a new color scheme.
Ten years of marriage, for most folks, isn't really a big deal, but the Curtis' and their photographer guest are observing the milepost, announcements or not. They're also showing the wedding video to anyone who cares to watch.
In Oklahoma City I'm Galen Culver for NewsChannel 4. Is This a Great State or What!
Carol has eight children from her first marriage. One of her sons walked in on their ceremony last year, but he was just passing through. The couple says Galen is their first and only witness to the entire ceremony.

I knew a teacher who celebrated their anniversary day (the 16th) every month. Cards, presents, dinner, the whole shebang!

Why not, if it's floating their life-raft.

I've ALWAYS told Mr. Lixy that if we ever start dressing alike...I quit!
That's a sweet story...it really is. But I can't stand couples (old or young) who dress alike!
If, perchance, Mr. Lixy and I happen to be wearing the same color shirt and jeans (for example) I kid him by saying, "Awwww...we're love twins today", to which he'll immediately look down at his shirt and then at mine ask me who's turn it is to change? LOL!
