Nervous, scared...

a bit of both actually. I got a phone call last Friday saying I failed my 3 hr glucose test that I had to take. My sugar levels were way to high for the OB's liking. *SIGH* My fasting # was 115; then my 1 hr draw (after the bottle of sugar stuff I had to drink ) was 203; then my 2 hr draw was 168 and my 3 hr draw was 137. They didn't like any of those numbers and have decided I have gestational diabetes. So, now I have to go see a perinatologist who specializes in that sort of thing. I go on the 9th to see this guy. Just have enough time to heal from the 4 holes they poked in me at the last visit and then have to have more!! I guess we'll see what he has to say. I know they're going to change my diet. But from there I don't know. In a way, I'm terrified. It moves me from one high risk category (hypertension--which is controlled at the moment with meds) to another.

So sorry to hear that hun - I was tested for the same thing when I was PG, but luckily for me, I was OK. The glucose stuff they make you drink made me want to puke though - then again, when I was PG, everything made me want to puke!

Good luck sweetie - it'll be OK. x

They may have you take a 5 hour test. Hopefully you will be able to take care of it by adjusting your diet. Start now. No added sugar. No sugar soft-drinks. Eat as few carbs as possible and when you do eat them, aim for the more fibrous kinds. More protein, less carbs.

You'll feel better too once those numbers come down some. ((hugs))

Just make sure to follow your doctor's instructions. I'll definitely be wishing you all the best and keeping you in my thoughts.

Mrs. WI had gestational diabetes through two of our three full pregnancies. It was left untreated for the duration of one, and picked up on and treat for the other. She was giving herself insulin shots once a day and her levels returned to normal after delivery. Since then (9 years later) she's been diagnosed with diabetes, but they say it's unrelated.

Gestational diabetes ain't no big thang if treated, and your doc's are aware of the potential issue so you'll be fine. Just do what they say and all's well.

they're all right^^^but i know it doesn't make you feel much better at the moment. nothing brings on the fears and worries and anxiety and doubts like being preggers, especially when it's not going perfectly. just try to get a little peace from the knowledge that women have been doing it for millennia and that the real rarity is to make it through some 40ish weeks without a single hitch. (((hugs))) you'll both be ok.

My wife ended up with gestational diabetes while pregnant with our daughter. In a strange way it worked out well for her/us. Babies born from gestational diabetes tend to be a little bigger. Being 10 weeks early that extra pound because of the diabetes was a potential life saver for my daughter.

What I'm trying to say with all this is that sometimes things can be a surprising blessing.

Best of luck to you.
