It's Winter, It's Cold!
I live in a place that is cold and snowy. But that does not slow us down. In the dead of winter we have a festival here that celebrates Winter. It is called 'Le Festival du Voyageur'. It is held in our French area, celebrating 'Le Voyageur', or the fur trader. All around the site are these snow carvings. The canoe sculpture is about 40 ft long and 15+ ft high. The other sculpture is of Cindy Klassen ( 5 metals in the last winter Olympics, who is from here), with some heads of the Plains Bison. The temperature here today was -20c or -4f.
Now that I have celebrated Winter, let it be over so that I can get back to camping!

I thought you had them all corralled in 'Keybek' (the OTHER country in Canada)
Super pics CB
That looks like a lot of fun and much safer that when "it’s hovering around 90-95F and is still and humid while you are between monsoonal trough visits, and it’s just Mango Madness time."

The fur trader canoe reminded me of an annual "Rendezvous Days" held at Ft. Creve Coeur near Peoria. Ft. Creve Coeur is a reproduction of an early French fort founded by LaSalle in the late 1600's along the Illinois river. Each year a re-enactment of that time frame is held there featuring hundreds of folks dressed in period costumes and camping out in teepees clustered around open fires. Bison burgers, home made root beer, "Anna Dama" bread baked in outdoor ovens (good stuff). Period music, black powder demonstrations, traditional crafts. It's a lot of fun.
Anyway, on Sunday, a service is held at the main gate of the fort with the altar being an overturned fur trader canoe with a deerskin cloth covering it. The homily is often on the history of the early French settlers in the Peoria area and the growth of Christianity in the area.
