Not enough research/data samples done but it would make moms feel better to think they could know for sure.

Belial,
If it turns out to be true, it will be very useful.

i know both of my kids had distinct sounds that, after a while, i was able to guess with some accuracy that it meant hungry, tired, dirty, hurt, etc.
those sounds were also distinctly different from kid to kid.
i think it's crap.

I watched her on Oprah and was amazed. I did child care for almost 20 years and have heard all those sounds many, many times, from countless infants in my care. I wish I had been able to learn about this baby speech a long time ago and seen if it would truly help figuring out what the little monsters wanted. Although, I did have a gift with figuring it out rather quickly. Or was it that all they really wanted was to eat, sleep, be changed, talked to, or out of that scratchy outfit grandma insisted on buying because it was so cute?

I can tell the difference, between 'Mum, I'm hungry' and 'Mum, my tummy hurts' usually...unfortunately, jr can't always tell the difference between those sensations, so will often head butt for food (those of you with experience of babies will know what I mean) even though putting yet mroe food in his tum will actually make it worse.
Did I mention, my little one's taking a proper daytime nap today for the first time in 3 days!!!!! The windy tummy must be feeling better at last!
