YOUR true meaning(s) of Christmas
I dunno if there's already a thread up for this, and if there is I appologize and offer myself up to the proverbial sacrifice pit.
So what's Christmas to YOU? What is it about the jolly ol' holiday season that just makes it completely write and awesome? Personalize it!
So I guess I'll go first, eh?
To me...
Christmas is wanting to move, not being able to, and being happier that way in the end.
Christmas is my fiance ranting for an hour about making gingerbread cookies, then saying fuck it and making me the chocolate chip cookies she knew I really wanted (mmm choooclate...)
Christmas is not being able to afford presents under the tree but having them there anyway.
Christmas is having a tree smaller than the presents!
Christmas is spending more than two days in a row doing nothing.
Christmas is negotiating with parents over what day we're coming over.
Christmas is negotiating with parents over who's getting who what, when, how, and why, and then trying to decide if we really need to be getting any of this because we're so confused and scatterbrained we can't remember if anyone even wants this stuff in the first place.
Christmas is going to my work/school party and watching one of my (male)professors do a cheer and highkick routine to encourage/freak out one of my fellow tutors.
Christmas is getting a frisby from a secret santa exchange. I love frisbies!
Christmas is having to think for a bit when someone asks you what you want for christmas, because you realize that with the exception of things like housepayments and the like, you really don't WANT anything you don't have. Except for a PS3, and that's just not reasonable.
Christmas is spending 30 minutes decorating, then spending an hour and a half cuddled up in bed with your fiance to admire your skilled handiwork. Ambiance, dammit!
Christmas is capitolizing Christmas even though you don't capitolize most other things you're supposed to. It's that important.
Christmas is totally sapping out and being so high on Christmas cheer that you go and make a 'your true meaning of Christmas' list'.

Christmas is wishing for the all elusive snow.
Christmas is hoping for change in the world.
Christmas is missing those who can't be near.
Christmas is trying to create magic.
Christmas is 13 days off school.

Christmas to me is the birth of Christ....THE most important reason.
Christmas is giving. I love to give people things I know will make them happy!! I love to see the look on their faces when they open their gifts.
Christmas is cooking for days and being totally exhausted, but loving every minute of watching those I love enjoying the food I have prepared for them.

That is the most important reason for me and mine as well.
Christmas is wonderful because it's the first one spent with my Joe.
Christmas is having the most beautiful tree and sitting together drinking tea and watching the lights twinkle on the ornaments.
Christmas is shopping!!
Christmas is spending time with friends and going to parties.
Christmas is listening to the same songs over and over again on the radio.
Christmas is telling my daughter for the one-millionth time that NO she cannot open a present NOW!!

Christmas is good and bad memories of the past
Christmas is celebrating your friends and family and all you hold dear
Christmas means evenings spent holding hands by the glow of the Christmas tree
Christmas is sending a hope and a parayer for all who can't be with you

I've got to agree with TinTennessee and TinglingTess ...
Christ is the reason for Christmas for us.
It is the joy of that birth so many years ago that inspires the beautiful songs of the season. It's the lighting that mimics the bright star that annouced His birth. And, it's the spirit of giving reminding us of the gifts of the wise men. As important, it calls to mind the hope for peace among all men and women regardless of faith for, if Christ was anything, He was the Prince of Peace.
Santa and shopping and parties and extravagence may be fun. And, they are.
But it's the quiet peace and the spirit of love that makes Christmas truly special.

Christmas to me is memories of waking up at the crack of dawn as a young child and hoping mom and dad would wake up soon so we could open presents.
Christmas is my mom cooking peanut butter divinity.
Christmas is always having two great big peppermint sticks wrapped with white tissue paper and ribbon from mom marked "From Santa". The only gift I look forward to every year and I never even eat the things.
Christmas is a time when I think of loved ones who are no longer with us and wish I could see them one more time.
Christmas, for the last few years, has been not being able to spend the time with my family but knowing that they love me and I am in their hearts. Just as they are in mine.

Christmas is remembering the ones we love or may not even know that are fighting abroad so we may sit peacefully in each others company in the glow of our tree while we sip eggnog or champangne.
Christmas I associate with WORK preceeding it and relaxation after it.
Christmas morning with our kids still running onto our bed and cuddling with us for a bit...................... even that they are now 24 & 21!!!!
Have a Merry Christmas all you Pixies!!!

Do you all know how much I would love to have you all here in my home for Christmas?! Ok, so my house isn't that big, but heck we would manage.

With the exception of the last point, my list is exactly the same as Lilith's.

I always strive to give those around me the same experience of Christmas that my mother always gave me growing up.
I will definitely be trying to recreate that magic for my own little one.
