Winnetou / Karl May
Hi all,
I have a little spare time those days and so I´d like to ask you if the three "Winnetou" films are famous in the rest of the world also.
Here they are very wellknown and famous, especially as they had been a german production.
And do you know the books of Karl May? It was the pride of many boys of my generation to have read them. The only time I was in Dresden I went to Karl Mays house that is a museum today, but it was closed (a Monday I think).
There is a special way of May to show Americas history.
The settlers are often the bad ones, the indians are more kinda heroes.
If you know the stories, do you like this point ow view?

Hiya GermanSteve! LTNS! *hugs*
I have not heard of the author or the production either. Sounds about right with the settlers and the indians though!
Sorry about the woes of your divorce but I'm happy to hear you have found another to share your life with!

Jseal, Lixy, Aqua,
Good to know there are people thinking of me. TYVM you all are really nice! I am touched a lot.
Hey that is really strange how nobody seems to know Kar May. Perhaps I can give some brief information on him later.

Hi GermanSteve,
Not to change the subject, but what are your thoughts on the latest revelation about Gunther Grass? He is best known here for writing; Die Blechtrommel. Grass state in an interview that toward the end of the war,he had been conscripted ino the Waffen.SS,and managed to keep it a secret for most of his life. I always thought the Indians were the good guys.John Wayne was just a cartoon hero.

HI Germansteve! Been a while but it's always good to see you here. Hope you get to stop in more often now, we miss you when you're gone.
Steph's right. You were mentioned at the dinner on Saturday. Wish you could have been at Niagara Falls with us.

Lakritze ~ I do not know if Günther Grass joined the SS for his political convince. At least I am not a fan of convinced Nazis.
I prefer tolerance and integration. Just a pity that I can see every day that integration is more difficult than it should be.
Dicksbro ~ Oh my, nice man, you have done a meeting at Niagara falls? Sounds really great! What a pity I have not been among you! Is there some info on that meeting?
Karl May is an author that lived from 1842 to 1912. He lived in Dresden and has never been in the US. He was the inventor of Winnetou, Old Shatterhand, Old Surehand, Aunt Droll, among many others.
