Please do not worry (much)
We have woken this morning to discover that the wonderful people at MI5 have arrested 18 people in connection with a plot to blow planes up. The threat level here in the uk is now at its highest level. All of our airports are spazzing out and delays are topping out at 5 hours. No hand luggage is allowed on planes at all.
Lizz is NOT flying today... repeat she is NOT flying today. The only thing that we have planned is a trip to Stratford to watch Patrick Stewart in The Tempest...... Ill let Lizz explain a little more if she can.

Oh bummer for you and Lizz Mayhem.
We are only about an hour away from Stratford - we could have waved to you!
Nevermind, it's better that she stays safe. Will she still be coming on a different time, or have you cancelled the trip all together now?

I expect at the new security measures will be in effect when I do fly back to the USA, and in all honesty, I am more than happy to comply. Looks like just travel documents and wallets and essential medications are allowed in the cabin.
But call me silly, even with the latest threats, I still like flying....
Plans for me to return to the States, remain as planned for about two weeks from now.
For anyone else flying, I wish you safe and happy travels.
Love you all
Lizz

mayhem1978,
Yes, I just read the lead story on the BBC's news. Bad situation - but the White Hates seem to have busted the plans. Well done.
lizzardbits, Patrick Stewart in The Tempest? You lucky thing! I am SO jealous!

I find several things worriesome about this:
1. The fact that this story happens at all. Yes, there are people who are genuinely evil in the world, and some of those genuinely evil people wish to do harm to both teh US and the UK.
2. The fact that the authorities in the K are being so vague about the people they've arrested. Suspected criminals in the UK have even fewer rights than do suspected criminals in the US.
3. The timing of all of this: it basically, hands the conspiracy theorists a ready-made issue on which to base their whacko theories.
Hey, whatever the real story behind the story, stay safe people.

woot! can't wait to wade through security this weekend at the airport. At least precautions are now distinctly in place...I couldn't help but think of one of our own pixies as I was reading commentary that it usually takes TSA 4 weeks to implement new procedures around the country, and they were tasked with doing it in less than 4 hours over night.

Well, I can certainly say, as someone who flew yesterday, that the situation really threw everyone for a loop. I was nervous as to whether I'd arrived at the Austin airport in time yesterday, but perhaps since it is a smaller airport, the security screening wasn't awful. Of course, my sweetie got picked for "special handling," which made his day.
But the terror alerts DID cause some difficulty. Flights were routinely late all day, and we ended up being re-routed on two subsequent flights (before the weather dipped its hand in as well). The thing that amazed me, though, was how CIVILIZED everyone in the airports acted. Especially in Atlanta, there was practically wall-to-wall people. Yet I never saw anyone overtly hostile, and all passengers treated security and flight crew personnel with respect, and vice versa.
Hopefully things will calm down in time for maddy and Lizz. *fingers crossed*
