Admiration

Is there someone from your past who you really admired and helped to form your opinions about life, love, something, anything, everything?

Who was it?

I really admired and felt close to my highschool English teacher. Being from a rural school she taught me for 6 years, 7-12th grade. Recently through a little birdie she got my email addy and heard I was looking for her. She emailed me right away. It's hard for me to imagine I'm all grown up and we are discussing teaching and education like long lost friends. I'm just thrilled to hear she is still teaching.

My highschool Art teacher--He was soooo damn cute and sexy....oh uh, that is besides the point---He was the one that got me interested in being a teacher in the first place.

My college Biology Prof. She was so enthusiastic about teaching a subject that she loved loved loved, and i loved loved loved going to her classes. She and I were friends as much as her profession would allow for prof/student friendship would go, we both knew the lines and respected it. I still love art, but I know now that biology education is thee right thing for me.

I had a High School English Lit teacher that was fun and hilarious. Her classes were thought provoking and fun. I screen printed a shirt for her for when we read the Scarlett Letter with the "A" in front and "starring" and the main characters on the back. She loved it and actually wore it once before she hung it up on her wall. Last I heard, she had moved to the Minneapolis area so she could persue more acting in plays and musicals.

Two people in particular. My dad who was always so even tempered and under control. I really admired that. And, my wife. She's the most loving and caring person I've ever known and whatever I've become, I owe a lot to her.

I have an Uncle that was had a large influence on me in terms of treating people with respect, using manners, etc. Basically, being a gentleman.

The most important person to me growing up was one of my older brothers. He's several years older and took on the role of dad and mentor since my real dad wasn't around. He even went so far as to give me the straight talk on sex. Not the textbook/clinical teaching I already had in health class, but advice on getting a girl, getting her clothes off, and making her feel good. There were also a lot of times he could have taken the 'get lost, I'm too cool to be hanging out with a kid' attitude, but more often than not he'd make sure I was included when it came to going out for pizza, a movie, or just hanging out.

Interesting question. There are several people I have admired at points in time, unfortunately time passed and things changed and most of those people turned out to be disappointments.

I have a bad habit of putting those I admire on a really high pedestal and place unreasonable expectations of perfection upon them. This is something I realized about myself in the past year and am working on changing.

Especially lately, my very first real and true love. She instilled hope and confidence in me about every aspect of my life, and she wouldn't let me mope around on my pity-pot very long.
