Big Days for Race Fans
At 19:00 GMT, [14:00 EST] yesterday, the Last Great Race on Earth began. The field of 83 starters were strapped in and on the line. There was no green flag but fans packed the starting line, with flags from Norway, Italy, Canada and USA.
This has to be the biggest race of the year for all the race fans out there and these drivers are no mush balls….. well, I guess they are, but not in the Steph sense. This is the longest race that will be run all year and not one where the biggest $$$ make the winner. This race is where the driver actually does some work and the pit crews are not a drill team although teamwork WILL be the thing that decides the winner.
I know all race fans will be hanging on every move made and this is an event that can consume even more time than the Super Bowl. Here’s the coverage links that you will all be glued to for the entire race. Get a BIG sandwich and a fresh keg and enjoy.

Thanks for the sites PF
My Cousin lives not far from the coarse that they use and sends pics back to me as each team goes by great stuff.
Susan Butcher is one of the all time great competitors that has ran the Iditarod
I think it was 2 yrs ago that the boy that won the junior division was the great grandson of the man that made the first run to Nome .The Anchorage paper had a great article about him and his grandfather

I have to confess that I had local inspiration that pricked my original interest MANY years ago. Balto, the lead sled dog that made that first run is a local resident that I get to see almost on a monthly basis. My granddaughters can tell a lot of Alaskans more details about the event than many know. LOL (poor kids have been drug to every lecture and book signing, and of course the mounted Balto is always on the book tour)
