cycling helps. I use a stationary bike but you have to be diligent. Other than that you can try tylenol for arthritis and any of the analgesic creams.

I have found they ache more if they are cold. You can buy leg warmers and wear them on your knees when you go out. Or, what I've done, because thier cheaper and they fit under regular pants...... Cut the toes off of a pair of tube socks and wear them pulled up over your knees. When your sitting at night watching tv put a blanket over your knees. Yes you will look like 'ole grandpa but if your knees hurt less who cares. A heating pad helps too.

I've got WAY too many old pairs of socks that can be "retrofitted" to suite that purpose.
Between that and the tylenol...I'll be good as new.

Stay in bed under the covers where it's warm.

dissolve 12 asprins in a bottle of wintergreen alcohol and use it as a rub, wife uses it for her bursitis and it works pretty well. The smell is a lot better than Ben-gay or most rubs.

Painkillers.....lots and lots of....but only when its bad that ya cant stand it
Other than that i personally use 'Deep Heat' cream....that work pretty darn good....cept it stinks *LOL*....but stinky vs pain...i can cope and other will just have to as well

You're not even close to being alone with knee problems.
Personally, I'd recommend alleve over tylenol, but that's just me. Whatever works.

I fell, full weight, on my left knee when I was 17, & it has kept me updated on weather conditions ever since...aspirin, tylenol, advil, stronger painkillers when I can get 'em (& don't have to operate heavy machinery anytime soon ), & also non-stinky alagesic ointments like Myoflex or Aspercreme generally make life bearable again...& not to poo-pooh Bibi's idea, but you might want to clear it with a dr. 1st before going the exercise route, if there's real degenerative joint condition, exercise can sometimes make things worse (of course, I'll take any excuse not to exercise anyway )...
