The actor Brock Peters died yesterday, aged 78. I remember him best in the role of Tom Robinson, the black man falsely accused of raping a white woman in the movie “To Kill a Mockingbird”, which was based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Harper Lee.

He played Admiral Cartwright in two of the Star Trek movies, and early in his career had roles in the movie musicals “Porgy and Bess” and “Carmen Jones”. I didn’t realize it, but he was also in “Soylent Green”.

He was really good in "To Kill a Mockingbird." I remember him well.
