First ever trip to California next week...
I'll be in the Sacramento area from this Saturday (25th) to the following Saturday (7/2). Lookin for ideas - think I might go to the Charles M Schulz museum in Santa Rosa one day, might get to SF one day. Any other suggestions? PM me with ideas

Here's some ideas:
Yosemite National Park (don't miss it!!!)
Sacramento--California State Railroad Museum, Sutter Fort State Historic Park
Sutters Creek--Sutter Gold Mine (and other small Gold Country towns)
Lake Tahoe and Truckee
San Francisco--Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown, Lombard Street, Cable Car Museum, Cartoon Museum, Fort Point, View from Twin Peaks (on a non-foggy day), Golden Gate Park, Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39, Teatro Zinzanni, Beach Blanket Babylon
Marin and Sonoma Counties--Marin Headlands and Point Reyes National Seashore, Muir Woods (redwoods), Wine Country, Jack London State Historic Park
Monterey area--Monterey Aquarium, Carmel,John Steinbeck Museum (in Salinas)

I like all of RIT's ideas....but I'd add:
* Fulsom (near Sacramento) -- quaint little ex-railroad town
* Day at Stinson beach, or driving fdown Highway 1 (Coastal Highway)
* Ghirardelli Square and Fisherman's Wharf (downtown SF)
* Sausalito -- cool restaurants, and conveniently near the Marin Headlands (which overlook the Golden Gate and are AWESOME)
* Haight-Ashbury if you like that stuff
If I think of others I'll let you know. If I was actually in town -- instead of being in Chicago (ironic isn't it?) -- I'd offer to play tour guide. Have fun!
