Women in combat in war

Wondering what you guys think. Should gals be on the front lines with the troops or not? I'm not sure what I think. It seems rather outdated to say "no".

I see no reason for them not to be, if that is the job/responsibility they chose when entering the service. But I also believe women should be required to register for the draft, if men must.

I believe in giving the job to someone who can (and wants to) do it. Doesn't matter to me if the body armor has bumps.

I guess as Walter Cronkrite says, ….. “That’s the way it is.”

Just one other thought here. And I must admit I am surprised at the voting. A clear vote (so far) of "it's only fair". But what about the potential of treatment as a POW? If a gal were to be taken prisoner, it is more likely that some not very nice things might happen to her than might happen to a man. Or is that not the case (shoot the man, and rape and keep the woman, for example - and both are equally bad).

Thoughts?

Jax...both sexes are/can be raped and tortured. It's a form of humilliation for either. There is no difference in the why it is done. Torture, humilliate, degrade, it's part of the risk for all soldiers.

Ask the Israelis and some of the other States with front line women.

Russian female troops were feared beyond death.

The one risk is that at some critical stage of the mission, one would need to use the latrine and seven of the other gals would have to go with her.

And, of course, there's the problem of needing a mirror to be sure the lipstick is on before the charge.

Just kidding. Other armies, notably the Soviets in WWII, have used women in combat with great success. So, I really don't have a problem with it if the women want to be a part of that. Quite honestly, I wish neither men nor women were needed.

Having been in the military, I have seen first hand, some of the disadvantages of having a woman in a combat role. But as has been stated in this thread before, all people willingly take on the risks of becoming a soldier/sailor.

However, in this time and age, if a woman is qualified and trained for her role, I see no reason for her not to do so.
