How are you spending the day?
Any pixies spending Thanksgiving in an unusual or non-traditional way? For a couple of days I was a little down in the dumps until I discovered that I'm not the only one in a similar predicament......I don't really have any family of my own to spend the holiday with and for over 20 years, the ex's family was my family. So I came up with a plan....I'm going to a sports bar that will be open....they have great food there....eat, drink and be merry with a few friends that will be there...then I'm headed down to the ocean with a new book....gonna sit, read and relax. I had planned to volunteer at the local women's shelter and help out but thank goodness, there are no displaced women and children there right now. And I was just wondering how any other pixies might be spending a non-traditional turkey day?
(Oh and before anybody wants to give a big awwww, please don't...believe me, the biggest thing I'm thankful for this year is being out of the dungeon. It's worth a few minor adjustments.)

Drink one for me, Kathy. It is just another day, I'll be spending my day as I spend most of them. Working.

I hope your day is exactly what you want it to be kathy, sometimes doing something non-traditional is refreshing.
My holiday is slightly less than traditional as my family is all 1,000 miles away. I have a few friends that invited me to join their families, but I choose to spend the holiday alone on my terms and pace. I'll finish trimming my tree, watch movies, and make a small turkey dinner. Spending time in this manner allows me to be thankful for a few selfish things that I treasure, my independence, all that I've achieved, and my abilities to survive on my own. Of course there will be a few phone calls to all my family "back home" during the day letting them know that I'm thankful for them too and reminding them that I'm perfectly okay with a nice day at home alone.

No "awwwwww's" here, but I wish we lived closer so you could join us, kathy.
We're doing the traditional thing, but not until Saturday. Yesterday was payday and I just got my shopping done. I don't really relish doing all that shopping one day and having to cook a big meal the next. So we're doing it Saturday instead. It gives me a couple extra days to do ahead whatever can be done ahead.

Kathy,
The first year my parents were divorced we were sooooo poor but like you my mom was just happy to be able to feel safe in her own home for the first time in many many years. Even if that home was an 8' x 10' travel trailer (don't ask how long we lived in that thing). Well with no $$ for child support and her making very little at her job we were basically set to just be thankful without all the dinner. We had many a white rice dinners and this looked to be one of those. We had even joked about shaping the rice into a turkey shape. Welllllllllll my mother somehow scraped together what she thought could get us maybe a small ham or turkey and a few sides. My brother and I were asked what sides we wanted the most. Well we so excited at the thought of getting to pick something that we couldn't decide. After much day dreaming and giggling about the foods we most wanted, that day is known fondly as the day of the Thanksgiving lasagna.
Kathy much love to you giving yourself the best Thanksgiving! ((hugs))

I'm spending today at home enjoying some time just relaxing/reading/watching movies and pretty much doing anything else that involves being lazy Friday is when I celebrate turkey day with some close friends. Works just fine for me.
So, to all of you great Pixies here's to a happy thanksgiving no matter where, when, or how, you celebrate it

Had a nap then called a relation near Joliet to wish his family a Happy Thanksgiving; had our turkey dinner with our four boys; took some pictures of our snowfall; watched some football; and, have had some time here at Pixies. Good day all around.

We don't actually have Thanksgiving here.
We start the day bar-b-q-ing a koala, with a garnish of sautee'd galah.
Kangaroo burgers with . . . . . .
Sorry, I'll check my medication.
