Question: What if...?
I've been reading a fascinating book in which historians try to imagine how world events might have been changed had one small event turned out differently. Like America without Nixon, Johnson and Kennedy.
So to turn it to Pixies, what little, trivial event, which turned your life around, good or bad, would you like to have turned out differently?

PashkinThePanther,
I must admit that I will always wonder how different my life would have been had I not changed my Major in college from Chemistry to Computer Science. I’m guessing that I would have married younger, not worked overseas...
That would be the “one change” for me.

I have wondered what would have happened had my family not moved from an area that offered me a great deal of opportunity to a very rural area that offered none, when I was 13. How would I have become a different person? Would I have acquired a better basic education? Would I have been able to go to college at a more reasonable age? So many questions...

I've moved around a lot and wonder what life would be like if I'd stayed in the Rockies. I was making good coin, had no debt and loved hiking, biking, canoeing, etc. What would have happened if I hadn't listened to my family who insisted I'd be better off with an education?
Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed school but I don't enjoy the student loans and making less money now than I was 10 years ago.
I don't really look behind with regrets and will keep looking forward instead.

I was accepted to Boston University, Xavier & University of South Carolina...and went to school near home. Missed opportunities? Probably, but then if I was present for those, I would've missed the ones I got. Would my life be better or worse? Nah, just different.

I would have not joined the army (especially EOD)--and then I would have stayed out of the reservs. Too many regrets there--have seen a lot of wonderful things in the world but balanced against that, the horrors and sufferings out weight the good.

OMG! Mr. Lixy and I were talking about this very subject just last night. What we were saying is...when he was a youngster and his parents asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up, he told them he wanted to blow things up for a living. Naturally, they pffffft this off as the immature wishes of a "boys will be boys" kinda boy. He was the kinda kid that did everything they warned you, "DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME". There he was...right outside, trying to catch an arrow that was shot at him by a friend, after seeing it on a television show called "That's Incredible" back in the 80's...etc!
Anyway...low and behold...through purely coincidental circumstances...while hubby was an unemployed diesal mechanic...we moved to an apartment where, just next door, there happened to be a person who was in the explosives industry...and he was looking for an apprentice!!! Tada!
And...we said..."What if we hadn't moved to that apartment"? It was astounding that he wasn't looking for that particular job anymore...but it came right to him anyway!
As for me...I would have had the doctor take it ALL out...way back when I was 28! Some peeps may understand that statement better than others...lol!
BTW PashkinThePanther? Have you seen the movie "The Butterfly Effect"? It's of that same premise.

I sometimes wonder what would have happened if I had decided to saddle myself with student loans and attend MIT anyway -- I think I am more balanced a person now....but damn the intellectual stimulation would have been fun!

I only have a few things I would change...nothing I am really ready to discuss here.......no I didn't ever have big plans for schooling and didn't want to be something "big". I always wanted to be married and have a family, like my own family. Unfortunately, those cards haven't been dealt to me and I am having a hard time with that..but I do really believe in my heart that every single move I make and each day I open my eyes is for some reason. So, the mistakes I have made and the problems I have caused are for some unknown reason at this time.

I tend to be more introverted and introspective by nature and tend to over-think things. So most of my personal and business moves have been planned. So spontaneity is lacking for the most part. I too chose to live in a more rural part of the country and have wondered if my life would have been easier if I set up in a more affluent city.
