Did anyone see...
the commercial for 20/20 that detailed a segment to be shown that made it seem like they were hosting some reality game than involved several couple vying to adopt a 16 yr old girl's baby?
I saw the commercial Sunday night and was shocked at the idea. I know nothing should shock me anymore.
Did anyone else see it?

I saw the commercial as well .... didn't remember that it was 20/20, just saw them advertising it while I think I was indulging in my guilty pleasure of watching The Batchelor.

Lilith,
As best as I can tell, the show merely documents the adoption process. I believe that Ms. Walters has said the promo was "heated" and there had been "a mistake".

I saw a commercial for 20/20 tonight that hopefully is what you might be talking about. I say hopefully because it's not an actual reality "game", but the process of a 16-year-old girl's pregnancy and interviews of potential adoptive parents.
*crosses fingers and hopes the never make a reality "game" of something this serious*

My s/o told me about this commercial and then I saw it! We were both so shocked and disgusted since it appeared almost as if it were a lottery process! I thought selling babies was illeagal! But without actually seeing the program it is hard to tell exactly what is going on. The whole idea of the shock value in their advertising is distasteful to me as well.

Jseal,
I read the news too!
As for the commercial huntersgirl it did indeed act as if it were a reality based game didn't it? I felt the same way as you as if they were using the baby for profit in some way.
Yes ABC is trying to fix the mess they made but I can't believe the idea got past the idea stage and onto the air.

I can't believe it got on the air either. But of course there will be millions of people watching it. Just sad.

nope but not surprised
just another example of the depths of depravity tv has sunk to. the more they can degrade, demean and generally insult anyone who is stupid enough to go on these shows, the better their ratings. it's all about $$$.

Last night it was brought up on Entertainment tonight, and Barbara said that the mistake was in using the word compete, because it wasn't a reality show, it was a documentary. They followed the girl around as she met prospective parents, and documented the whole thing. There was no prize, and no one was paid anything for "competing".

The idea of a reality "game" about adoption is sick. However if it in fact is supposed to be just a documentary, then great. People will be interested and adoption will get more publicity and more people volunteering to do so. I didn't get to see it myself.

I think following the process of an open adoption is a marvelous idea, it was just the way they promoted it that was a horrible decision.
