An introduction...

Greetings and Salutations!
I'm a 41 year old male, married, living in the midwest. I don't work full time, so I have a bit of freedom to scan the culture from the sidelines, and do follow current events as well as history. I have been a fan of the written word for years, and find the "library of teh Interent" to be beyond my wildest imagination! I have been on the Internet since 1995, and have floated around many sites since then, but generally visit a few news and hobby sites and those like ASSTR and Nifty, as well as a few more focused 'theme' sites.

I have a happy marriage (third time is the charm?) and have been so for about 10 years. We are open, but (as seems to be the commonplace) she's much more possesive than I am or ever will be. I feel that she's an adult and as long as there is no threat to us, she is free to be herself. It's not a directly mutual reflection, but we have had some fun (and interesting) encounters with others, and both have had more "wild times" before, but I just wish we could share more of our lives and esperiances with others. (I guess that's what memories are made for... )

I have just recently began to feel "old" (no, not "old" like I no longer care who's on the top 40 radio or care what's in style - I lost that at age 20), but meaning that my peer group now feels like what I percieved my parent's peer group to be many years ago. I don't call it a "midlife" thing, just an awareness of the reality that surrounds me. My wife is probably even more accepting of this than I- she still has birthday parties, and she is a few years older.

Living is a conservative and smaller town than I was brought up in (by choice - I do so muck love the open roads and clear air and eye contact when speaking) , it's so hard to have conversations that range across levels of intelligence and morality. And it's just hard to get a "reality check" when you are not the dominant partner, either.

Yea, I know it's a rambling introduction, but I just wanted to stop on by and say hi.
BTW, I see some crude and sophomoric sillyness here, but also a fair glimmer of genuine attempts at intelligent conversaton. I'll avoid the 'smut' and concentrate on the sensual (all five of them) and the intellectual (the sixth sense?)

Have a great spring and do take some time to listen to the birds... .

BND

The crude and sophmoric silliness is just an attempt to let off steam from our everyday lives.By and large this is a pretty good group of people to cavort with. Welcome again to pixies.......

Welcome to Pixies. You'll find a lot here. Often we talk about Pixies as being family and the analogy is a good one. We share silly, sad, happy, serious, sexy and every other kind of thought and feeling ... much like you'd expect in a family. If that weren't the case the site would not, I suspect, generate nearly the loyalty or enthusiasm.

Hope you find that after a while you'll get to know us and share in the whole range of experiences open here. Anyway, welcome aboard.

WELCOME TO PIXIES BND!!

Looking at your AV I thought you were a lady. Glad you cleared that up.

Nothing wrong with "crude & sophomoric sillyness" once in awhile. It eases the tension of daily life and then your relaxed and ready for the things you listed as more important. Sort of like "All work & no play make Jack a dull boy."

I think you'll find a big enough variety of post to enjoy though.

BTW, in your profile is: "Occupation - Philosopher". Now I'm going to be stupid & give you one more thing to add to your list of 'don't like'. But what does a philosopher do? I seriously don't know.

lol @ teddy ...

Welcome to Pixies bordendazed ... althought I am not sure if I should be happy or offended - sophmoric? fair glimmer of genuine attempts at intelligent conversaton?

We are an easy bunch to get along with, and we all celebrate our mistakes and accomplishments with each other. We are a genuine group of people coming together here to have fun and share ourselves with others. I hope that once you learn more about us you will appreciate us for who we are, not just what you perceive us to be.

I look forward to reading more about you and your thoughts on many topics!! Have fun!

YOU CALLED?

Oh hi bordendazed
Welcome to Pixies. I think you’ll find a great international cross section of open and honest English speaking folks of all ages and genders, if you have the time and interest to read around. I hope you find us interesting and rewarding enough to share how we may make a living telling others how we see it. I know I’d be very grateful for such insight.

Phi-los-o-pher (fi-los’a-fer) n. 1. A student of or specialist in philosophy. 2. One who lives, makes judgements, etc., according to a philosophy.

Phi-los-o-phy (fi-los’a-fe) n. pl. –phies 1. The inquiry into the most comprehensive principles of reality in general, or of some sector of it, as human knowledge or human values.

Teddy , it sounds like a person with an opinion about something to me. I think there are about 6,350,000,000 of them around. Pick one!

Thanks PF. The definitions are perfectly clear.

But I want to know how one gets paid to do this...... does he teach it? give lectures? write a column? does he specialize in one field or does he have an opinion on everything?

If he gets paid to give his opinion through one of the above mediums people must want to hear what he has to say. But why? Is his opinion any better then anyone elses? Do people form thier opinion on things based on what he says? How does he form his opinions? does he read tea leaves? go by the stars?

Sorry so many questions!! But I'm interested and Mom always said 'if you want to know, ask'.

Besides there could be a future in this for me.

Hey.... stop laughing. Ya never know.

SHHHHHHH Teddy.
You can’t be so loud! Everybody will be trying to get in on the scam. If we can coax how he’s running his game, out of him, and how to make OUR opinions cashable, we’ll be into something. I know Irish and Steph will be interested in this too. Then we’ll have something to sell to everybody. This could be bigger psychiatry Maybe even as good as religion. We can appeal to their intellectual ego and hustle it as a self-improvement deal. You know….. “You Can Be As Great As ME” type thing. We could do late-night TV paid commercials. Lixy could ask lots of questions and jseal could smile at the audience and give a condescending answer. Then they’d all want to pay us to know what WE think about stuff. UncleSilky can write the “must buy accompanying book”. Nobody could make sense of anything he said and just shut up thinking they weren’t cool enough to get it. Maybe he’d babble out some “must buy accompanying tapes” too.

We just have to keep this on the skinny until we find out how he gets people to give him money for what he thinks. Remember what PT said. “There’s one born every minute.” (and that was before the exponential phase of the population bomb really started.)
