Spent some time trying to explain to someone why we don't typically a/s/l in the chatroom. Maybe it's just me...

For those of you who typcally chat, how do you feel when people enter the room and then a/s/l? or the minute you enter the room they a/s/l?

[sexist attitude] I always thought this was a guy thing but have seen a lady or two recently who are very pushy about wanting everybody's A/S/L [/sexism] Am wondering if it's more a personality thing or what?

Personally, it just turns me off and makes me want to exit immediately. It is one thing to ask after you have begun getting to know someone... but first thing.. nope. It really irks me when they ask sex... good grief... I always use jenna.. or jennaflower... and I would THINK that is a pretty obvious clue that I am female...

I don't like it either. And like Jenna, in most chatrooms, I'm using a name that is obviously female. Sometimes I wonder if they even stop and think about what they are asking.

My reply to a/s/l is:

'old enough to be here/yes please/here at the moment... and yourself'?

But then I always feel guilty.
Maybe they don't know what to say and are just trying to start conversation.
Is it any better or worse then the old 'whats your sign' line? Or do you come here often?
My openers are either: Where are you from? Or hows the weather were you are? Are they any better?

First the A comes along so that when the police show up you can claim "They said they were 18"
Then the S so they don't make the mistake of pm'ing a guy.
Last comes the L so they can decide if this is someone that lives close enough to bypass the cybersex and go straight for the hookup.

I think it is mostly a way for dudes that are wanting to get their rocks off to target perspective candidates.

Teddy... I think the ???'s you mentioned come across with more of a "Hey, let's actually converse" vibe. Way better than a/s/l.
