I will not see it here or there,
I will not watch it anywhere!
Have anyone here seen the debacle that is billed as Dr. Seuss' Cat in the Hat?
After reading over a hundred reviews, I have decided I will not support this film at all. I could understand deviating from the story a bit, but the 'humor' they have put into this 'kids' film is unforgivable. I have no intention of purchasing any of the dozens of tie-in merchandising items either. Toys, cereal, or otherwise.
So, have you seen it?
Do you think it was horrible?
Do you think it is a film Dr. Seuss would have been happy with?
Did you enjoy it? Why?
Do you think I am a little too passionate about Dr. Seuss?
(BTW, I was wearing a kick ass Cat in the Hat style hat at least two years before the cheap felt versions became a regular item seen all over at county fairs.)

My sitter took my kids and they all disliked it. It was rude, crude and disrespectful to kids and Dr. Seuss.

I've read some shitty reviews of it. Also read that Mr. Geisel was very protective over copyright and the like but his wife has allowed more marketing than he ever would.
From what I read, the screenwriters had to flesh out the story to make a full-length movie. I hadn't read that the movie was offensive, though.

Some of the reviews I read said that it was not too bad... until Mike Myers showed up as The Cat. He makes a reference to a garden tool calling it a "Dirty Ho", says of the fish... "He drinks where he pees", puts a plastic ass over his rear and farts when impersonating a mechanic, and becomes aroused by a picture of the kids' mother. It's just not right.

It is only something like 74 minutes and I heard that was too long.

I only just heard about it. No really, my head has been under that big a rock.
Honestly, there are good things in this world that don't need movies made of them. Especially not BAD movies. For crying out loud, the beauty of Seuss is that he doesn't bloody talk down to anyone. I think movie audiences in general, and kids in particular, should be genuinely insulted at how little hollywood actually thinks of them.
Or was that too opinionated for my official return to Pixie's?

I haven't seen it and also don't plan to. From the previews I've seen and reviews I've read, it seems just too crass for a Dr. Seuss film. Very sad
Aqua, what did you think of the Grinch film that came out a couple years ago?

I liked The Grinch. While it was quite loose as far as following the story, it was still entertaining to me and I had no problems letting my daughter watch it.

I loved it, and thought that Jim Carrey did a fabulous Grinch.
It still doesn't come close to the original cartoon movie, though

I like Grinch as well and saw it as an adaptation. I thought it kept the respectfulness that Seuss always intended. My understanding is the Cat does not.

Aqua,
Bummer.
We read the Dr. Seuss books to our kids, and I can STILL recite chunks of "One Fish, Two Fish" and "Fox In Sox", etc.
Another icon goes down in flames...
Still, I heard that the latter titles, like "Fox In Detox" and "Oh The Places You'll Scratch And Sniff" didn't sell too well.

Haven't seen it and feel glad about that now. Loved Dr. Seuss, but this sounds like a very sorry attempt to capitalize on his reputation. Makes me a bit angry.
