One of my ramblings
3650 days ago a child was born. Yep my son is 10 today. It's just another of life's little signs that time's passing entirely too fast. He has asked for a month now for money so he could get my birthday present. Damn, how did I raise a son so unselfish? (Damn, and Lixy's used the tissues and DB's shirt) Needless to say he's got something besides mulah coming. He hates icing so a cake is out. I'm planning to pick him up at school and get the girl at the diner to make him a pepperoni pizza with extra cheese and 10 birthday candles. It may sound corny but I try to make both kid's birthdays something different even if it is a little unusual. I usually make a date and let them choose a place to eat and a movie aside from a present. Have any of you as parents got any different birthday traditions for the kids? Just curious and a little sentimental today. Bear with me please.

BigBear57,
Every family has its own intimacies; one of ours is we always wait until the evening, when we have returned from work and school, to congratulate and celebrate. We save the party for the following weekend.

Well, it depends. The kids usually get to pick out the dessert that they want for their b-day. Sometimes it is cake, sometimes it is cinnamon rolls or chocolate chip cookies...
I have been known to wake up the kid during the night (at the precise time of birth - hehehehe) to wish them a happy birthday!!! LOL - that was met with mixed results though...

They get to pick the restaurant or meal on the actual day. We have a cake that is a surprise to them. They have to take the first bite with no silverware or hands. Yes face first This is the rule for everyone's Bday I experience. Is sooo much fun
Then my kids trade off each year for parties with friends.
Happy Birthday to your baby! Kiss him for Aunty Lil!

I let my daughter pick the meals for the day, and I always make sure she gets a party. This year I rented out the local pool for a swimming party....we had a blast! Going to have to miss her birthday next year, as I will be out of the country. That is going to be SOOOOOO hard for me. But I think I will throw her a mini party when I come back over Christmas. Going to suprise her!

I usually go wayyyyyy overboard on my son's b-day.... every other year.... usually go to the extreme... .and take 20-30 of his friends to the movies.. yeah.. I know... crazy.. LOL...
the alternate years.. we do something much smaller.. just close family and friends.. small gathering.. but always lots of fun.

Used to always have a cake, but now that our kids are all older, we pretty well let them (the three still at home) suggest what they'd like. One son always wants pie. One like's pizza. Another will plan the whole dinner.
