Tour de France (AKA Tour de Lance)

Anyone following the Tour de France?

My dad is a bicycling nut. We are eager and hopeful that Lance Armstrong will claim his 5th consecutive tour win, on the 100th anniversary this year. We have also been watching and enjoying the beautiful French scenery.

Anyone think they could handle this monstrous race?

I've heard bits of what was going on. Like the time trial they won for the first time, and the crash the other day. I'm all for Lance winning, but I really don't follow ANY sports rabidly.

And no, even just trying to bike around Germany I had problems staying caught up (though mind you, this was just a couple months after having had an operation on my left knee, so that didn't help).

Secretly I watch it in part to see all these muscley men (although a bit too skinny for me) in the tight, clinging bike shorts. I never said I was the bicycling fan in this family.

My mother used to embarass the heck ouf of my brother and I as kids talking about the men in uniforms at baseball games.

And I'll joke about women only watching (US) football for the "tight ends."

I sort of had a thing for twin girls in HS that were both basketball players. I only ever went to what was their last game as HS seniors though.

One went off to Iowa and got married, have no idea about the other (well actually they both attended IA State, but after that, I really don't know).

LOL you two. Don't really follow bicycling, but, for you BCG, will hope for Lance to win.

I always preferred watching the high school and college cheerleaders in those short skirts ... just waiting for them to spin around or do jumps. And then came the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders ... gulp. Every boy's fantasy.

I've been an avid cyclist but there is NO WAY I could do that race. The most I ever biked in one day was 85 kms and I was tired! In my defence, I had heavy bags on my bike but still! Their endurance is insane!

I like the skinny biker look, tho'

Off to watch the Tour soon

Male college cheerleaders have to be the luckiest bastards ever.

NYT Sports blurb tonight (7/13):

Lance Armstrong put on the yellow jersey of the overall leader today, but his rivals are close.

Blah. Protesters on the latest stage holding people up, but Lance still wears yellow.

I check the daily recap on the Tour and I'm all for Lance winning his 5th consecutive win, tying Miguel Indurain for the record. When I was a teenager I used to dream of doing the Tour on my BMX bike... lol. I did ride 100 miles once when I was a teen, but I doubt I could do it now.

I'm sure we've all heard now that he DID it. Second person to pull off 5 wins in a row. Now he wants to try for six. All I can say, especially as tight as the competition was THIS year, is GOOD LUCK!
I don't think I've even ever had two in a row winning anything, much less six...
