How comes I've never had a boiled peanut?? (goober pea...lmao!)

I lived down south for a while......did they hide them all when I was there? What do they taste like? Why are they boiled? What's the difference between them and the reg. peanuts ya get in the Planter's can? Hmmmmmmmmmmm???? Or even just right outta the shell?

Raw green peanuts straight out of the ground, well yes they get washed, are boiled for hours in extremely salty water. The peanuts inside the shells get soft and absorb the salty juice. I prefer to eat mine warm. They are messy as hell and should be coaxed from the shell with your tongue. Then slurped to get all the salty juice. It is a southern delicacy.

I have to say that these last ones were the biggest nuts I have ever put in my mouth. And the juice was lip smacking tasty, not too salty, just right. In fact I think I even dribbled some down my chin. I had to lick my lips and fingers to get every drop. Only problem was that it squirted in my eye and nearly blinded me

That's very interesting. I've never heard of this way of enjoying peanuts. From your comments, I'm surprised that this recipe has remained obscure.
