This thread keeps dying, yet here I am again with a brief (or not so brief) report. And maybe a slight vent.
First off... all performances were really good.
Patrice played an original that was, despite the distortion, rather Pop sounding. Tommy Lee commented that if Supernova got ahold of it, they could dirty it up a bit and make it work.
Magni sang Smells Like Teen Spirit. The band liked his angst, but Tommy thought he should have destroyed a guitar or something during the song.
Ryan did an original that, to me, could have easily passed for hit song from an established band. It sounded really good. Supernova said he looked really comfortable and are happy to see him rocking out.
Dilana did Every Breath You Take. Sang it great. Costume choice... not so great. Singing her own name during an instrumental break in the song... WTF was that? That just seemed so egotistical to me. I didn't like Dilana so much at first, but she was winning me over as the show progressed. Her attitude the past few weeks is turning me off big time. /vent
Supernova thinks she is the bomb and pretty much said she's done everything perfect so far.
Storm did Cryin' by Aerosmith. Gilby didn't think she brought on a strong enough performance. Tommy wanted her in less clothes. They joked about the corset she wore being Dave Navarro's and when Dave commented, 'Let me have my corset back right now, honey.' Storm fired back in jest with, 'Come get it, bitch.'
Toby did a slightly re-arranged Layla by Derek and The Dominos. Gilby didn't like the arrangement, but praised his vocals. Tommy liked the performance a lot, as did Jason.
Lukas did All The Things I've Done by The Killers. Gilby (damn he's a downer) remarked that Lukas spent a lot of time facing the back of the stage, but that he sang awesome. Lukas said he was interacting with the band. Gilby replied that he should focus more on the people in the crowd. Overall, Supernova liked it.

Still I hate Lukas and this he sings like he's trying to gargle gravel, on purpose. Ryan kicked booty. Patrice is going home. Storm needs to be in musical theater. She is not a rock star. Dilana kills me. Stalker song chanting her name, works and the mom thing made me cry. Toby was ok, I like Layla.

I swear my age must be catching up with me! I've had to watch the webcasts to keep up with the show this time around because of working graveyard shifts so I DO appreciate the update Aqua, thanks. Am I the only one who see Magni as the logical choice as a frontman for this group? All through the event he's been the epitome of a considerate band mate. His stage presence is polished and he's shown he can turn almost any song style to his own.Dilana and Lucas seem to be having an ego contest, while their vocals do OK. Ryan just gets on my nerves, his vocals are powerful but the original he did was out there somewhere to me. The lyrics missed bigtime. It seemed he wrote the song just trying to advantage his growling. I admire Toby's redo of Layla but his vocal range leaves a little to be desired. Storm's good but her versatility needs some work as well. If this show runs like INXS Dilans and Lucas will finish first and second but I just can't see it. I know opinionated of me but then... music is subjective and I just know what I like.

I agree with you about Magni. He's also the more mature seeming.

There was just once when Magni was being an ass. During the collaboration songwriting exercise he was a jerk to Jill. That's it from what I've seen. He's also brought better and better performances each week.

Another performance show went down last night. They also focused on the Dilana Drama a bunch more, which I wish they would shut up about, but drama = ratings I suppose.
Anyway, here's what happened, (with some of my thoughts on the performances.)
Lukas - Lithium / Nirvana
He stated that he doesn't like this song and rearranged it... and it worked for me. He did it very well. Dave and Supernova really liked it.
Magni - I Alone / Live
He's already performed a Live song and I predicted he would kick ass on this one. Not exactly going out on a limb with that, but he did exactly as I thought. It was very well received by Dave and the Band.
Storm - Bring Me To Life / Evanescence
Toby sang the male lead during the chorus of this song and Storm did a really good job, but not great and I didn't like her dress very much. Dave and the Band thought Toby stole the show somewhat and reminded Storm that at this point she had to be great, not just good.
Toby - Rebel Yell / Billy Idol
I think while a lot of people thought Magni would knock it out of the park with I Alone there were a lot of people that thought Toby would strike out with Rebel Yell. Well, as Toby would say, 'Evs'. Grand Slam Home Run would describe his performance. He rocked it out from beginning to end pulled a bunch of women on stage with him for the finish. Dave and the Band were stoked on his performance and Gilby said he brought that extra something he was looking for.
Ryan - Clocks / Coldplay
I liked a lot of things about this performance and didn't care for a few things. It was high energy though he started slow, looking like he was going to play the piano again for the performance. He started singing the 'You are' part of the song slowly, by himself, and then the band kicked in heavy with the intro of the song and he jumped up on the piano and started rocking out. The main thing I didn't like was that he seemed to have trouble hitting the high range of the song and would moreso scream it then sing it. It was powerful, but seemed to convey a lack of ability. Dave and the Band were very impressed with this performance as well.
Dilana - Mother Mother / Tracy Bonham
A really strong performance, though I didn't like her 'screamy' parts, which the song is supposed to have. Her outfit was awesome and Dave said he felt it was the best performance he had seen out of BOTH Seasons of Rock Star. I disagree, but that's me. It's going to be hard for anyone to top Marty's Creep or Wish You Were Here from Season One, IMO. The Band really liked Dilana's performance too.
At the end of the show the bottom three were Lukas, Storm, and I think Ryan. Based on the total of the performance (singing and stage presence) I think that is what the bottom three should be.

So there's been a band around for a long time called Supernova. Not a huge band, but they gained a certain cultish popularity with their song 'Chewbacca' that was used in the Kevin Smith film, Clerks. Well, they have sued the Rock Star: Supernova band over the name and immediately following the show's finale they can no longer use the name Supernova for their band.
The story can be found here.
