Thank you all, and while I realize each of us seeks strength in our own way, let me just say, "God bless you all." Your love and affection have meant a great deal to us today and will through the weekend.

My wife and I and one of our sons made it down to Decatur this morning and spent most of the day there with her dad, mom and my wife's brother. Her dad is not, I guess, strictly speaking comatose as i thought. His eyes were open and when moved, he would make a groaning kind of sound. Somehow, while he really can't move or talk, we sense he knew we were there. He's in a nursing home on oxygen, but based on and honoring his living will, no truly artifical means are being used.

We're going to await word that the whole family is there or on their way ... and monitor dad's condition. Based on that, my guess is that either tomorrow or Friday we'll head back to Decatur again.

While we pray that a miracle may help her dad, we also are realistic. He is 89 and very frail and so are bracing ourselves to what appears to be a likely conclusion. Again, your good wishes and prayers helps to fortify us and strengthen us. I'll keep you posted ... and one more time, God bless you all. You're very special people!

Dear Friends,

My wife and I made it down to Decatur this morning and visited a little longer with her dad, mom, brother and a sister from Texas who just flew in. Our oldest daughter also went with us.

As it ends up, that was very fortunate ... about one hour ago we learned from her brother that her dad had just passed away. At least he was at peace and with those he loved beside him. Somehow, I think he knew that, even if he could no longer physically indicate feelings or emotion.

Dad (my father in law) was a truly wonderful man who I feel very proud to have been associated with through my marriage to his daughter. He and I had many times that we shared together that were as intimate and meaningful as those I had with my own father. Heck, he was my dad, too.

It's ironic in a way, this time of year is the time of our town's fall festival. In 1978 my dad passed away on the Thursday of this same festival.

We have a daughter who lives near Cincinnati who was born on dad's birthday, and many other rather interesting coincidences that tied our families in a way maybe not often experienced between families that are brought together by a marriage. My wife's folks and my folks became good friends way back over 4o years ago when my wife and I were still dating. We'd often get together to play cards and we often shared important dates like graduations and marriages with both families participating. It was very special.

There's a blessing in this news about dad passing on. Certainly, we'll miss him very, very much and have and will shed many tears. But I know in my heart as I do about my parents, I feel I can talk to them all each day in prayer; that they can hear me; and I have confidence that he is now in a far, far better place. I know not all accept this and I'm certainly not trying to be preachy. But this is a real comfort for us.

Thank you all again for your warm wishes and prayers. You really have in the last few months become family and your support at this time is just one more of those very special things called Pixies Place. Gold bless you all.

So sorry to learn your father-in-law passed away, db. And you're right, he's at peace now and no longer suffering. Please pass my condolences along to your wife. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers. :heart:

SS, Saddaddy and Legend ... thanks, much. I and my wife in particular truly appreciate your thoughts. We're doing okay. Looks like visitation will be on Sunday and the funeral on Monday. Just glad that we had several days to go down and see dad again before his time came. Hugs to each of you.

It sure sounds like you had a wonderful treasure in your FIL. How truly blessed you were to have a man besides your own father that you could call "dad"....

db.....I did know of this from a more personal message from you and as usual, I am late replying in a thread. My thoughts and best wishes always go with you and your family. We can't change the future of our loved ones fate but we can comfort those who are affected by the suffering of those they love. I know you'll be strong! I lend you an ear if you ever need to just talk and I send my aura of comfort should you ever need a cyber hug!
