What is it that makes them any more deserving of "success" than anyone who is here at Pixies?

Would Good Morning America and 20/20 be doing interviews if someone from Pixies died today?

I'm really just sick and tired of all these famous people who are famous for NOTHING.

AMEN

I'm not sure that being an infamous widow, losing a 20 year old son, having wrangles through the courts regarding the paternity of your daughter and dying at the age of 39 actually qualifies you as a success.

If you define being famous as being successful then you're halfway to answering your own question. Why do ordinary mortals such as us put such a high importance on fame? It doesn't matter. I think these days for a lot of people, being famous is the only thing they have actually succeeded at and probably the only thing they are capable of doing with their lives (Jade Goodie in the UK is a case in point). Or is success measured by money in the bank? It's true that famous people do tend to have more money, but to measure success on that basis is surely just as shallow as wanting to be famous for the sake of it.

A.N.S. always struck me as strange in the extreme so for her to die in strange circumstances is not really a surprise either. I'm sad for those who'll miss her though.

Lou, I understand your point, and I agree, much of the turmoil of A.N.S's life would hardly qualify as "success". However, I ask this question.

Take yourself back to Monday Feb 5, 2007. If you became involved in a discussion with a friend, regarding if somone was successful, if they were considered famous and able to capitalize upon that fame?

Would you and your friend considered A.N.S as successful or as a tragic figure in the days prior to her death?

Definitely tragic....I loved honey girl for being a BBW and all that, and also being able to rebound a bit after crashing and burning...but girl was a mess and she was largely treated like a joke.

When she was doing the Guess ads, that's when she really was on top. If it had ended then, it would be a totally different story.

I find people who consider themselves to successful because they are famous or rich pretty tragic. I really do. I do not buy magazines or newspapers and the only reality shows I watch are talent ones such as X factor.

I also find it pretty tragic that so many other people out there consider this kind of 'celebrity' something to which they should aspire.

Oh and by the way, I speak as a fairly talented amateur actress who chose not to do it professionally as to be unsuccessful in the field means not being able to pay the bills or have a mortgage and to be successful means being famous which is something I would hate.

They would if they knew our story. We're an interesting and very special family.

I'm with Nutworld, PF and Booger. Why put someone on a pedistal just because they have lots of money. The news media has so much time and not enough news that they have to make stories to air by giving 'celebrites' air time.

I do feel sorry for her baby girl.
