ROFLMFAO@all above!

Um...OK...so I feel better now that I am not alone in hating getting "opinionated reports" from all the different news sources. They all try to put a slant on the news they report to make the ratings for their particular station or paper, as opposed to truly informing us in an unbiased manner. The best of the worst is the news of the day. If it's an extremely bad situation (ie: mistreatment of POW's or hostages or a pro football player turned soldier or civilian taped murder)...that's all that's reported on for days, with each reporter speculating and formulating and injecting his personal opinion into the story. It's not that I can't read between the lines and decypher the actual story, it's just that I can't stand having a need to do it when such serious things are happening and all that is thought about is ratings and sales circulation!

What headline will sell the most papers? Nevermind that the family of the person in the headline is in deep mourning and needs to see another, more horrible than the other, story about their lost loved one, like they need another hole in their head!

What's the most horrific thing that we have on tape to play over and over again to play up to the masses curiousity and have them tune in, in this time slot on our station, so we can check the ratings and make claim to the highest rated news show watched? Nevermind that "we the people" are human and WILL watch...not for our satisfaction, but because we are inundated with this type of reporting, and nothing more constructive and productive, until we can filter through the ratings-making nonsense and figure out the actuality, all on our own!

TY for the link Lil! And TY for replying everyone! I'd watch/read you all because despite the silliness, or maybe even BEACUSE of the silliness, I am more informed now than I have been in a while! Keep up the excellent reporting!

*hugs*

The sad thing,is that MANY people, will believe their, biased,
reporting.Their opinions influence other people because they only
report their opinions! Irish
P.S.Hopefully,most people,have enough sense,to look at BOTH
sides of things!

I like going to google then click 'news' then the issue I want to read about. They have up-to-date varied sources.

The newspapers here have written editorials on how they've struggled with how much to show and they do show restraint.

Television is a visual medium and yes, pictures like that can grab the ratings.

I admit, I'm a news junkie. But even with that, I prefer pussy flashes to news flashes.

I believe you a right on, Lixy ...

When thinking about the news, remember the incident surrounding this year's Superbowl where CBS retreated from airing a one minute commercial because the White House didn't like it.

In the past, we had the likes of Eric Severeid, Howard K. Smith, Walter Cronkite, Edward R. Murrow, et al that came up through the trenches, correspondents reporting the news from first hand accounts or superb journalism. We impeached a president because of outstanding investigative journalism. [Remember that ... "I am not a crook" -- Richard Millhous Nixon]. Well ... yes he was.

Today we have people reading the news. And they aren't reading the real news, they're reading what the network mucky-mucks want them to read. What they think will sell, what isn't offensive to some political hack, and what won't, heaven forbid, upset their sponsors.

Turn on GMA any morning of the week and you get five minutes of "news" followed by what's happening with Jacko the Wierd, Cobe Bryant, and Scott Peterson. Blah, blah, blah. News? For whom?

But GMA didn't tell you about the government's reduced funding for Section 8 housing, putting an estimated 8 - 10 million people in this country out of reach of affordable housing. And you didn't hear about how the government has virtually eliminated the Federal Summer Jobs program for disadvantaged youth because, quoting Mr. Bush, "we just don't have the money for those programs."

And we are spending $250 billion in Iraq? That's one-quarter of a trillion dollars. [Approximately $210 million of which was for outfitting GI Joe Bush in his flight suit and putting him on the flight deck to proclaim the end of combat operations.] NOW, that was news.

Where are the on-going accounts of the failures in Afghanastan, North Korea's growing nuclear threat, the International Court's indicment of Cheney in Europe?

There are few. No, the FEDs would rather twiddle with red/yellow/orange/chartreuse and muave alerts. It keeps your mind off of other things going on they'd prefer we not hear too much about or dwell upon for too long.

By the way, what ever happened to that missing 727 that is STILL missing?

I am a news junkie. Having said that, I prefer to listen to CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Company), BBC (1 or 2), or NPR. Besides getting news that is unaffected by American sponsors, it's refreshing to hear another slant on the unfolding events and opinions around the world from other than an American (commercial/political) perspective.

Sorry ... (stepping off peach basket). I don't believe we are hearing the news -- we are hearing what the White House (a wholly owned subsidiary of the drug companies) want us to hear and believe.

Hey, it's an available peach basket....[steps up].

Don't like the current news cycle? Here's how to fix it in three easy steps. 1) Announce that terrorists would like to attact US targets. As this is generally true, it's a safe statement. Hope no-one notices that you didn't actually increase the terror alert-o-meter. 2) If stomething bad happens....you're covered. You "warned" people....and therefore saw it coming. 3) If nothing bad happens...also good, you can claim that your "war on terror" is working! And best of all, you can't be accused of dishonestly, as you can always claim national security prevents you telling people anything more.

Faith healing, as applied to politics.

Your soapboxing is excused, Ginger, because your FLASH is indelibly imprinted on my mind.

Surrender the stage?....I can think of something else I'd prefer you surrender.

WOW! Well, there you have it folks. Reporting at it's finest with a bit-o-sex to sell it!

LOL you guys! TY for understanding! And thedog? You've missed your calling! Actually you and GingerV could hold anyone's attention behind a news desk! I know I'd tune in!

Just yesterday, I was listening to the radio and I heard a snippet about a plane that was grounded at Philadelphia International Airport. The reporter was speed reading so he could get to his commercials about some concert tickets to be given away during Tommy Conwell's (yep, from The Young Rumblers) radio show, that follows the Howard Stern show. Something about a bomb scare on this particular plane, and it was evacuated and moved to another location at the airport. THAT'S ALL I HEARD ABOUT IT SINCE THAT TINY REPORT! Is the media freakin nuts? Next thing ya know they were talking bout those tickets and then about what's happening in the movies this weekend and blah, blah, blah...but not another word about this plane or what they may or may not have found and who reported the bomb and what they are doing about them! The only reason I know that this was just a scare and not a real bomb (unless it was disarmed) is because I didn't hear a big kaboom all day! I'm rather close to Philly and this is the kind of info I would like to know about!

Fuckin fuck! I could smack em all upside their uninformitive heads!

*looks down as a peach rolls away from the basket I must have stepped up on*

Now that ^^^ is amazing! That could be the news of the day! "Lixy stands on a peach basket and it doesn't crumble beneath her"! Where the hell did that sturdy soapbox get to? LOL!

Don't you remember, Lil? Oldfart replaced it with a sturdy fiberglass milk crate...less likely to collapse under the strain of so many members using it...
