Skipthisone, if your original thought originally sought to canvas the originality of original movies, then you have to return to the original thought I thought you thought was originally in the movies to see if the originality came initially from the original or whether the original's origins were originally elsewhere.

It really doesn't have to do with what you're thinking, as long as he believes it is an original film/idea.

If the true original was in a different film, then the said film is not truly original, of course, but unless someone can dispute that the said film is not truly original, I'd take their word for it.

if aproched now some clasic films would never have been made

Remember, movies are a multi-billion dollar business. They exist for the purpose of getting asses in seats. Whatever will gets people through the door will get made. This is why we have so much derivative pablum. Originality counts as an unknown. Traditionally, the unknown is what we fear (especially studios which fear it because they don't know how to, or if they can make a buck off of it).

Taking a small tangent, all December the Trio channel (check local listings for availability) is running with the theme "Brilliant, but Cancelled." It is a cavalcade of wonderful television shows that were ahead of their time, or just too original. Networks, in the business of keeping asses on the couch, did not know how to market these shows to appeal to a broader audience, or would just not give enough time to find an audience. They had a documentary on last night about this that was amazing. All month they are going to spotlight shows that had abbreviated runs from Freaks and Geeks, The Ernie Kovacs Show, Gun. . . The last original movie I saw was _Spirited Away_ , this weekend. It is an anime about a little girl whose family wanders into the spirit world and is turned into pigs. The little girl indentures herself to a demon and winds up working in the spa at a spirit bathouse, until she can rescue her parents, mend broken souls, and save everyone in the spirit realm. This one is a charmer. 4 stars.

i like remakes kind of how i enjoy movies based on books. as far as originality someone said there are only 3 jokes since the beginnings of time. i believe it was that sherman(?) guy who wrote hello mudda and rape of the ape. anywho the last original movie i saw was 40 days/40 nights. i guess real war stories don't count.

I think axe31 hit the nail on the head... and martian expounded on the comment greatly. Commercial studios don't have the backbone to try new stuff.

Lorelei was right: indie films are the way to go if you want originality.


"The Truman Show" is one of the few Jim Carrey movies I ever liked. (The other one being "Man on the Moon")

Not to give anything away, but it was very funny until someone died, then it got creepy. I thought the ending was really creepy too.

BLAIR WITCH 2 sucked big-time. I saw about 10 minutes of it on cable and then changed the channel.

I dont have the directors cut, all I remember was the two girls had a big black dildo, and then the guys said "ass to ass" and the scene changed... I was so fuckin dissapointed that I didnt get to see what happened...

Do you get to see more in the directors cut?

In the director's cut, they did show them using the dildo on the table. Showing close-up shots of the movements and expression on Connelly's face. I forgot exactly how much they showed with them on the table. It's been a long time since I seen it. Of course all of this is simulated sex.

They showed Connelly's character as not liking one bit of it. That was disappointing. I would have enjoyed it! But of course, society still see that sort of thing as degrading.
