Theme
Does anyone here put up and theme or specific color based tree?
I ask after having seen all the lavender holiday decorations this year.

Lilith,
Not here. That's a new one on me. An interesting development.

Traditional mixture of colored lights; garlands, decorations both store bought and home made. Nuttin' totally original.

I know there have been 'fads' over the years for tanenbaum decorations. Some years back, apples were the choice for ornaments for decorating when only one form of ornament became the thing for some reason. Then there was peaches and little Christmas presents and lots of bows on the tree. A lot of people were hanging nothing but apples and red bows.
Even when I still put up a tree every year, it was purely German traditional, but I have a daughter-in-law that could fill me in on ANY trend being promoted at the mall. I understand "60's-70's Retro" is what you MUST have this year. The tiny twinkle lights are OUT! (especially the all white) (and surely don't consider the all white for outside decorating) (scrap the 'ice cycle' strings first). Get out your aluminum tree and put on the fat garland and egg size lights. The victorian style is REALLY gone. If you even remember it, your tree could burst into flames.

I've been doing burgandy and silver for years... I'd like to change it up, but I like the simplistic look.

If I did all the cute themes I liked, I'd have to have several trees.
We just went with muliti colored lights, red garland and Halmark ornaments. Did I spell all that right?

We do, or at least did.
Our tree is almost all University of Kansas crimson and blue and Jayhawk ornaments. Every year we get a new Jayhawk ornament to go on the tree. Over the years a number of sentimental ornaments have joined the Jayhawks so it's about 50/50 mix these days.

Unfortunately, the new puppy in the house has resulted in a theme of no decorations (or tree) at all...all our ornaments have far too much sentimental value to risk having them chewed up or destroyed by a lunkhead whose coordination has not caught up with her size & weight...

^^^ is lucky to be able to find where she put the Christmas stuff in storage.
Like Wyndhy, most of what we put on the tree has meaning. The kids put on "their" stuff, but they know Mom gets to put on the Willow Tree Angel.

I just got brand new everything this year and picked a theme I love. We bought one of those pre-lit Christmas trees with all white lights. It's 7 feet tall and thinner than most trees. I trimmed it in silver, white, and crystal clear ornaments. There is silver garland, silver bows and a sliver and white star that lights up. The only pops of color are from all the ornaments I have bought my daughter since she was born. Oh and the presents underneath. It's very clean and pretty looking.
