Would you walk your dog in the cemetery?

Our cemetery has houses on 3 sides of it and the other day I saw people walking their dogs thru the cemetery. They do walk on the sidewalks thru the cemetery but the dogs walk in the grass. They all have their "duty" bags with them but it just struck me as sick that they would let their dog do his duty on someone's loved one. It just seems wrong to me. If I had a dog I would not walk them in a cemetery.

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

I don't have a dog, but I don't think I'd walk it through the cemetery explicitly for the use of duty detail or is that doody detail.

We've done photo shoots in the cemetery is that just as "wrong?"

I wouldn't take a dog for a walk in the cemetery for the express purpose of doing "it's duty" but I have had dogs in a cemetery with me before. I took my grandma's two cocker spaniels to visit her grave a time or two.

Maybe it's just me, but (despite the fact that I'm really not a dog fan at all - yappy, smelly little buggers) I don't really have a problem with it. I suppose I kind of think of it as being part of nature - all part of the 'pushing-up-daisies' thing that appeals to me about being buried rather than cremated. I'm not offended by bird or squirrel droppings on gravestones, so it'd be odd to be bothered about dogs going on the grass nearby. That's not to say that I'd walk my dog there if I ever had one.

There's a cemetary in our town centre that gets used as a park by the local 'goths' and homeless. I find the graffitti and empty beer cans far more offensive than the odd bit of dog mess.

I can't say that I see a problem with it either, to be honest. I've never had a dog but I do like walking through cemeteries and I wouldn't even think twice about bringing my dog with me if I had one.

I don't have a dog...and likely never will...but I would take my dog there. I would make sure to clean up after him, though.

I like to visit cemeteries sometimes because they're peaceful places....no harm or offense is meant.

I wouldn't do it simply because even if I were respectful...I wouldn't want someone to see me walking the dog and think I was being disrespectful.

That having been said, when WI No. 1 son was but a wee lad and toilet training, we were vacationing on Martha's Vineyard. We were wandering around Oak Bluffs when the call of nature hit him. As anyone in that situation is aware, that age does not offer one much advance warning so we did what most parents would do...brought him over to this decrepit looking gnarled up cedar tree and had him drop his drawers. While he was whizzing all over this pitiful looking thing, I noticed it was set in cement. Obviously I was intrigued. I abandoned my post to look at the other side of the tree and recoiled in shock, for there was a plaque indicating it was The Consecrated Tree, a place of worship since 1849! A prayer service held there was even mentioned in the written works of Nathaniel Hawthorne!

All I could think of was "Religion? I peeeeeeeeeeesssss on your religion!"
