Academy Awards

As I sit here watching the pre-show for the Academy Awards I have the same thought I do each time these shows come on, where are the awards shows for all the other professions of the world where we get to dress up in fancy clothes and jewels parading down a red carpet to a complimentary grab bag worth literally thousands of dollars, just for doing our chosen profession?

It was said very well on a morning radio show when interviewing Chris Rock (this year's host) and he said something to the effect of not much caring for the awards programs either, afterall, no one spends time critiquing the scientist going to accept the nobel peace prize for wearing a non designer suit, or better yet, people aren't lining a red carpet to ogle him as he enters the building, or even better yet, the awards show for the nobel peace prize isn't televised or sold out!

I think it speaks volumes about our society, and was quite impressed that on some level Chris Rock shared my opinion.

I agree Lil, I haven't always found Chris Rock to be humorous, but his opening speech was rather entertaining (even if I am a supporter of GWB).

Am watching (again...for the 45th time) Independence Day...on regular TV, as opposed to the Academy Awards (even though I made the seating for the Kodak Theatre in 2002) mainly because I barely ever get to the theatre to see a movie and I just don't feel close to it this year.

I love Chris Rock now...but I have to admit, I disliked him when he was on SNL. I like his stand up comedy in the raw...but I know that he'll have to tone down to non-comedic for the sake of "TV" air and all the media bullshit that I've droned on about in another thread. I can't bear to hear him curtailing his genius! If you've ever heard his stand-up routine[s]...you might appreciate his cringing all the while in this award episode!

^^^^Boycott? Maybe!

Usually all the jewelry the presenters wear is on loan from Harry Winston Jewelers. Even the girls carrying out the Oscars have real diamonds dripping off them.

I was pleasantly suprised when he sang!... Well, no matter - you can see his passion.. :lust: Lucky Melanie Griffith ....

I thought Hilary Swank was a knockout!!! Good for her for winning! While I enjoy Jamie Foxx.. I was hoping someone else would win.. he has swept the awards handed out this year... but his speech about his grandma brought tears to my eyes.. "She whupped me" made me laugh... "but then she told me why she whupped me." Loved it..

The local area was thrilled about Jamie Foxx's win. At his hometown high school in Terrell, Texas, a relatively small community east of Dallas, they turned the High School auditorium into the Kodak Theater, complete with Red Carpet. They showed the auditorium on the local news and it was completely full with local family and friends ... you know the people who say "I knew him when" and they let out quite the yell of Jamie when they were waiting on the name to be announced and there was a standing ovation and all upon the announcement. I've never been that close to the hometown of a star so it was neat to see how they support him. Of course the news had interviews with all sorts from the high school who knew him when including some of his old classmates.
