My kitty cat
My kitty Simba got hit by a car yesterday sometime
He couldnt breath properly nor walk
The vet kept him overnight (weren't sure he'd make it through...but he did)....i got him home today....he still cant walk properly(and wont unless he absolutely has to)...he sorta staggers (he has a fractured pelvis apparently) and his breathing is still laboured (maybe a tear in his diaphram)
The vet let me take him home as he was stressing in the unfamiliar surroundings....He refuses to eat or drink still....but has peed (*L* means his bladder nerves weren't damaged at least..)
He is at present asleep with his Mum lying beside him licking his fur. He is in pain obviously...but thats what happens when ya take on a car
Every now and then he rattles up a purr....so i'm very hopeful that with some TLC he'll make it.
Anyway time will tell wether he recovers to what he was

Having worked as a vet assistant and tech, I've unfortunately seen many of these situations...I really hope your kitty recovers quickly, I'm very very sorry to hear this happened

Update:
He's breathing a bit easier today....still refusing to eat or drink which has me quite worried as it been since Thursday and today is Saturday
I've tried to gently force him to at least drink but it upsets him, which in turn upsets his breathing..so i just let him be
How long can a cat go without water?

Sharni, I hope all the best for your cat. I couldn't imagine being in your shoes, I'd be quite panicked.

3 days is long enough. Let me tell you how you can tell if he is dehydrated or not.
Pull up on the skin between his shoulderblades and then let it go. If it takes more than 3 seconds to snap back he is dehydrated. If he is, your vet can give him subcutaneous fluids(IV fluids) to keep him rehydrated for a couple of days. You also need to check his gums periodically. They should be pink. If you press on his gums and let go.... see how long it takes for the color to come back. Again if it takes longer than 3 seconds he could still be in shock or he's losing blood somewhere inside.
Good luck girlfriend. Btw........ Is he breathing with his mouth open or closed?

His mouth is open....though nowhere near as far as it was...his tongue is no longer out as well....he looked like a dog does when it pants

Yeah sounds like he has a diaphragmatic hernia. What color is his tongue?

I'm sorry, Sharni.
I grew up with dogs, and didn't have a cat until after I was married. I picked up a stray and loved that cat like I never thought I ever would. He was a great cat. He taught my wife's sissy cat how to hunt, and protected him from the bully cats in the neighborhood. I was devestated after he didn't come home one night (very unusual) and I found that he'd been struck by a car. Amazing how animals can touch us in such a deep way, even when we insulate ourselves against it.
