Same sex kissing: double standard?
Hi everyone!
I'm interested in your thoughts on this. The other day I was watching tv with some (male) friends, and Jerry Springer was on. And two gay guys kissed right on the screen. I was amazed at how all my friends were like "ohhh! That's gross!" and stuff. I couldn't figure it out. If two lesbians kiss, they'd be like "awesome!!"
Being bi-sexual myself, I don't care who kisses who on TV. It doesn't make any difference to me.
I've noticed this kind of reaction several times with different people now. They're all 'tolerant' of people's sexuality, although they're all straight. They don't know I'm bi.
So I'm wondering what people think about this. Are lesbians more acceptable than gay guys these days? Or are my friends just less tolerant than everyone else?
Wondering what you think,
CasperTG

i'm a male. so i love to see girlz doing things to themselves *grin*. And i myself find... UN-exciting to see males kissing. But that's me, usualy galz think the opposite. (i THINK).
I mean, they always chase the gay guys instead of... well, ME...

My friends have also displayed this behavior. Being the inquisitive person that I am I asked them why they did that. Of course a lot of my male friends said that they liked to look at girls kissing because its their fantasy to be with two women and their 'disgust' at the two men is because they dont know how else to react. Most of my friends are sure of their sexuality but a few that aren't. The ones that aren't are the most vocal of their 'disgust'.
Oops...went a little long....hope this was a little helpful.

I feel a little uncomfortable seeing males kiss. Not that I am uncomfortable with my sexuality or am against same sex relationships.
I just am not used to seeing it, it is uncommon to me and not to my sexual preference.

same sex kissin'
I guess that I am of the mindset that If two (or a whole room full) of same sex folks want to kiss, what business is it of mine to judge?
Like my sister once said, "If a guy can enjoy kissing a lady, why can't a lady enjoy it, and if a lady enjoys kissing a guy, why can't a guy enjoy it?"
But, if their kissing disturbs my fishing, then I definitely have an opinion!!!
Carry on good kissers everywhere!

I hate to say it skip, but I disagree with you on this one. I think that it is a double standard and also is not a double standard. Same sex kissing is same sex kissing either way. Maybe it is part of a sexual preference, because if you do not find males attractive, then it's just that....You cannot be aroused by it because it is a male/male thing. But when two women kiss, it may not neccisarily be that the act of them kissing arouses you, but just that fact that you are seeing two women. I don't know, but I think that it both is and is not a double-standard.

P.S. Don't worry skip, you're still #1 in my book LOL

well first of all, I've kissed a lot of women and men in my life and it had nothing whatsoever to do with sex, but it did have to do with love - you know family and close friends. ..... and i think women hug and kiss each other more easily in US society then men would on a non-sexual basis, so .... having said that, I'm ok with seeing people kiss each other, but get a bit uncomfortable if it's passionate kissing .... I think it has more to do with not knowing what my appropriate response should be to such public displays of affection then it does with seeing someone be passionate in public ...... is that the most wussy diplomatic answer ... sorry! jjjjbo

my friends say the same things...
it's very frustrating to me, because I too am bi and know there is no difference. Especially before I came out I loved watching guys kiss... i still do, but now I love watching girls kiss too!
Perhaps because so much "straight" porn has lesbian activity as opposed to gay activity, so society sees lesbian sex as a clearly defined sexual act. When two men kiss it is not publicized in porn unless it's "gay" porn. Therefore the straight American population sees two men kissing as something to "tolerate" as a "lifestyle choice" whereas two women kissing is considered "sexy".
Just my two cents.... I don't agree with the thought process at all though, and I believe people need to free their minds and question societies standards and expectations.

There is a double standard in terms of same-sex kissing. For whatever reason, I don't pretend to know. I've really only kissed one other woman in my life, and it was actually kinda nice.
Generally, I'll get excited by any two attractive people kissing. Male or female is not a problem for me, so long as they're not hideously deformed.

I feel that an two people kiss is sexy, regardless if it is same sex or not. Especially if you can tell that they are really enjoying themselves with it.

well, perhaps i've been brainwashed by so many porn movies, and women kissing is both erotic and normal to me, whereas being sexually unatracted to males, seing them kissing does nothing to me...
