.....It wants Google to produce a sample of 1 million random Web sites, as well as Web addresses of all Google searches for a one-week period. Other search engine providers have cooperated with the government. .....

It’s not good for old paranoid bastards like me to see this.

Somebody please keep telling me that ANY authority’s power won’t be abused and they are just going to ‘protect’ me.

Google says it does not sell user information and the government isn't asking for that data. Still, the company claims the government request "overreaches."

...ya think?

How many searches does Google get per day? What does that Friedman book say, PF? I might be wrong but I think it's a billion per day. Who in the hell is going to pay for the needle in a haystack search? Not only that, who's paying to listen to the random overseas calls they're eavesdropping on?

Any given authority's power won't be abused and they're just trying to protect you.

Now, if you believe that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

Cheyanne,

It is on occasions like this that I recall the quote, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”.

I hear that the Gov'ment also made this request to Microsoft and Yahoo and it was complied with immediately.

But hey look at it this way. This year we have an election year. The democrats can take back the house and the senate. Then problems can be fixed i think.

LOL.. yeah - but it fits! HEHEHE

When I read the article, I though - sure no more downloads, no more pics, no more... argggggggg! What is next? Taxes on keystrokes? Dunno - I think that there is so much more that the government needs to worry about rather than people's search habits.
