Gonzo voting
Yes, I got tapped to help run the early voting in my county. The way this is done, of the six days of early voting, any given election judge is supposed to work three days, alternating.
...Except I got a call at 11:45 yesterday morning; they were swamped, needed me to come in ASAP. When I got there, the bus passed the line that (I found out when I went inside) wound around the lobby of the building four or five times, out the door, and (the part that I could see going in), down the block, and around the corner. Polls officially close at 2000, but that just means that the last person in line at that time is the last person. We still have to process them. Didn't actually get out of the center until after 2200.
We took in over 2400 voters, and that seemed to be an average for the five early voting centers around the county.
Oh, there are approximately 650,000 registered voters in this county, BTW.
And I'm about to head out the door to go work my "regular" shift.

I'm sure they'll all be back every day so be sure to get a good night's sleep for the next week.

The bizarre thing here in Oz is that you are not required to identify yourself to vote. This is how dead people and people who are a thousand miles away can vote. Privacy Vs stolen votes.

You're a trooper, GG. In AZ, early voting is done by mail. I often wonder if our ballots end up crated up and filed next to the Ark of the Covenant, never to be seen again, but I have to have faith that they're actually counted.

We all have to thank you GG. During a time when many of us have MANY questions and doubts about the reality of our system, it is people like you that keep the few sparks of it's ideals and principles glimmering.

My thanks, too, gg. Is "Sandy" causing the numbers to go up or is this fairly normal in your area?

That sounds a lot like Chicago. "Vote early and vote often" is the motto.

1941 voters checked in yesterday. This is the first time that MD has had early voting for a Presidential election (they did have it for the 2010 Gubenatorial), so we don't actually have a basis for comparison.
As I mentioned in another thread, early voting cancelled for today & tomorrow, due to Sandy's influence. We're having a make-up early voting day Friday.
