How'd you pop 'the' question?
After reading Lils thread "111 across" I was wondering how other people popped the question.
So, how and where did you propose/or were proposed too?

It was a fall day and Miss WI2B had just signed the lease for a new apartment in the town I lived. Her mother and I had been conspiring for almost two months. I picked out the ring and setting, and had the diamond from her grandmother's engagement ring put in to it.
I was on my knee, and obviously she did say yes. She was very touched that it was a family stone.

Mrs. Jay-t and I were sitting in a booth at the drugstore soda fountain. I placed a promise ring on her finger and she laughed at me!! And I was being serious. Come to think of it she's still laughing at me 34 yrs later.

We'd just gotten off of the Pirates of the Carribbean ride in Disneyland. There is a cafe' there, in the cavern. He banged on a water glass and stood on the chair and proposed. I tried to hide behind the menu and slide under the table. You see, he was still married (but separated) from wife #4. Amidst cheering and other vocalizations, (these are pirates, mind you), I said "Yes". And, believe it or not, with some wonderful ups and hideous downs...we've managed to make it still work for 21 years.
Footnote: The engagement ring had a lovely opal in it. Unfortunately, the opal fell out and was crushed in one of those old credit card things. He replaced it and the next one fell out and cracked on a rock. The third time he went back to the jeweler, the guy just shook his head and asked if he wanted plastic this time. But, rest easy folks. The ring resides in a small box in the safe. It was replaced with a different ring when we were married.

(No, I've never been proposed to!)
Mae, I hear that opals shrink in water - my sister had gotten one and the jewelers told her to take it off when she washed her hands and the such after the first time the stone fell out.

I was on top here.
It was her request that I do so.

Mr. Lixy and I opened "all" of our X-mas presents and I headed to the kitchen to make breakfast and get a cup of coffee. I was donned in my Mabel Bomgardner bathrobe, slippers and my beautifully styled bedhead look. I might have been a tad crabby cause another year had come and gone without a proposal and/or ring (I'd been waiting a few years and we were together 12 years by this time).
Mr. Lixy was lingering in "The Christmas Room" and I called to him to see what he wanted to eat. He said, "Come here...there's a gift I forgot to give you." I huffed and puffed...still feeling a bit moody and now anxious to get breakfast over with and head out on family rounds.
I reluctantly went to the doorway of the dining room and he wasn't in there. I yelled, Where the fuck are you?", as I entered the room. "Stop fooling around! We've gotta get going!" He entered the doorway at the other side of the room and I opened my mouth to "bitch" at him again when he suddenly took a few steps towards me and built momentum enough to drop to one knee and slide the rest of the way to me. He pulled his hand from behind his back and held up a black velvet box and opened it with the other hand. "Will you marry me now?", he asked, with the sweetest smile on his face. I screamed out loud like I was being murdered!
Years before I kidded him each time he'd ask me to marry him. I told him I would marry him when he bought me the biggest diamond on the planet, set in platinum, with baguettes on either side...AND he had to get down on one knee and surprised me.
I couldn't believe he remembered that. He isn't the most romantic man on the planet. He has his moments but I didn't fall for him for being a romantic. This was (and still is) the most romantic thing he's ever done for me! And...I really was kidding about "the biggest diamond set in platinum". I did want a diamond with a platinum mount because platinum makes it sparkle more. I didn't mean for the entire ring to be platinum. They sure saw him coming when he went diamond shopping. I still stare at the ring from time to time and my heart and mind go back to that X-mas day and I smile and cry all over again!

Mae - All the people there that day have a great memory of thier vacation! Congrats on 21 yrs! Opal is Oct. birthstone but because it's such a 'soft' stone is seldom used but a pink stone I can't think of the name of right now. Thanks for sharing a very original proposal.
Neige - When it happens you'll be a beautiful bride and make some man very happy!!
Scotz - Gee, how big is this bed? Seems like alot of people are there.
Lou - I had forgot about that.... just as great reading it today as it was then! Thanks to FP and you for allowing all of us to be there!
Lixy - OMG that is beautiful!! So romantic! Brought a tear to my eye. Quote: "This was (and still is) the most romantic thing he's ever done for me!" He's saving it all up for your 50th anniversary maybe?
