The most I saw it jump today was $0.10...so, I guess, in that respect we were lucky.

The gas stations in our small town are letting customers know that by the end of the week it will be $3.00 per gallon.. That will be increased by .46 within in 4 days..
Guess the lawn will just have to grow!

Gas was $2.999 when I fueled up.....I put the pump in the car and started 'er up.....and half way through the fill up the attendant came out and changed the sign. It increased to $3.099. I guess I bought just in time.
BTW....My fill-up was $62 and that was the cheap stuff.

Funny how it doesn't take long for the prices to rise. There is plenty of gas at the stations already and even before the last rain drop fell - the prices started rising. Too bad the jerks don't lower the prices as quickly as they raise them!

I used to gripe about that to bare4you. The minute there was a whisper of gas prices rising, the stations would change the price! I asked a station manager about that because I knew that they didn't pay that much for the gas that they already had. What was explained to me was that the amount charged now isn't for what they had already paid for which was already underground, but for what they will have to pay for the next load. Most of it is a guessing game for them now.

i was in northern california over the weekend and 2 chevron stations less than a mile apart were .30 cents difference for the low grade - 1 was 2.79 gallon, one was $3.09 a gallon - can someone explain that?

That always struck me as a total scam. So if I understand this right, they bought the gas at X price, but since prices are expected to go up, they're selling it at x+y. (why? because they can.) When the next shipment comes in, it'll be the same situation, and since the price hardly ever goes down or at least goes down much slower than it goes up, they are almost always making an increased profit.
I just hate the fact that it's all speculation. Well, that and the fact that the oil companies are making huge profits while the rest of us are getting screwed.
But that's just me.

Depends on who their gas distributers are and what they are charged for it. Also on if there are near by stations where they can have a competitor war and also what their profit margin is.
I left a gas station in SD when I moved here, my boss(the owner of station) was only making a 3 cent profit on fuel per gallon.
