Question Curious??

My wife & I live on the border of Rochester & Barrington NH.My
stonewall is the town line on Rt125.We,often,use regular Rds(not
Highways)to commute.We have both noticed,lately,that things are
,in the process,of construction,everyplace that we go.Even the places,that I used to target practice,have been closed,landscaped
& built on.Most are not what could be called"cozy"homes.They are
huge & the lots are bare(no trees)Maybe we're old fashioned,but
they don't even look "homey"!We were wondering-Is there alot,
of building,in your area?We feel sorry,for the people,that for years,have had a wooded lot,next to them.They get up one morning & it is cleared & a house is being built. Irish

Hi Irish,

Lots of construction here too (Bow). I think that stems from the road folk here having only about three days between perma-frosts to work on roads.

The other thing I noticed about NH since I moved here (from the Florida Keys) is that there is very little zoning. In Florida, and in many other places, you just can't cut down trees to make way for a house. In NC, you have to get a permit for each tree you would like to remove.

Here it seems, the philosophy is just "cut it down" -- but I agree with you, it is distressing to see and watch wide expanses of woodland give way to a house that is probably twice the size it needs to be.

Why does a family of four need a 6,000 sq. ft. house?

Mostly road work around here. They completely relayed the road between here and the town south of us (15 Miles). They also did work on just about every road that leads out of town. They are in the process of building an overpass for the traintracks.

Not much in the way of housing were I live but there are some new housing developments going up but they are being built in old fields that had nothing more then weeds. Not many trees around here except the ones in yards.

I totally know where you're coming from, Irish. I live in what used to be a small town outside of one of the major cities in my province. It's now one of the largest towns in Canada...too big to be a town, really, but unwilling to amalgamate with the city or become its own (which I'm grateful for).

We have new subdivisions cropping up everywhere you look. Cookie-cutter communities, with perfect front lawns, no back yards, and you can throw a rock out your kitchen window and hit your neighbour, lol. I don't have a problem with those neighbourhoods...but I need trees in order to live properly

I'm fortunate in that I live on my inlaw's property. They were the first people on this street...back when the street was named for them b/c they were the only ones on it. We're literally surrounded by trees on all four sides, and are already surrounded by older development, so don't have to worry about being blindsided by a new project in our backyard.

Yep, there are tons of condos being build right on a expressway here. I can't imagine living that close to the highway!

My theory- You can't count on something that isn't on your property. If they want trees, they can plant some on thier plot, without worry about them getting torn down to make way for a house.

Yeah, it would suck not having that bit of nature and privacy. -shrugs-

Only construction up here is the roads. Michigan has 2 seasons: Winter and Construction.

the town I live in about 3000 folks has 15 new housing add. going in. 5years ago we were only1200 folks. lots of people moving out of the city into the COUNTRY 2 1/2 arces does not make a farm. but on the up side its good for a lot of laughs,you milk a steer how?! I Restore horse drawn farm equip. and blacksmith on the side everyone of them wants a yard ormanite. the old saying thar is money in city folk is true.

I think with the interest rates being at an all time low for the ages, developers are taking full advantage! We don't have a store close by (withing a 10 mile radius) to by a freakin pair of underwear! Most chain stores have gone elsewhere or closed for good. But farmers are selling off land like it's going out of style, and developers are building low income "condo's" and townhouses, and on the opposite end of the scale...$500.000.00 homes, on them to accomadate an unimaginable amount of families around here!

Luckily I live in an area where the land was sold in smaller acreages and the families aren't farmers with 100's-1000's of acres to subdivide! We have a lot of "green space" around our immediate vicinity, that can NEVER be sold and developed! But, where I used to live (another town not too too far away) you can't swing a dead cat without hitting construction equiptment!
