>< Lock Jaw ><
Just Kidding well sort of
Actually, I am wondering if anyone here has ever had to wear a night guard?
If so do you actually wear it? Did it help you? Was it for TMJ or teeth grinding or both?
Just thought I'd see if you guys have any info before I drop a chunk of change on it?

I had one for grinding my teeth when I was younger, It didn't work b/c it never actually entered my mouth ... well maybe once or twice. My solution ended up being much simpler though, I just had to stop doing ecstasy. Of course being an adult you'd probably have much more luck than I did at the time.

The only person I know who had anything like that, got it because she ground her teeth REALLY badly when sleeping. (A bit like CA does, actually!! LOL! )
Unfortunately, she had a "thing" about having things in her mouth (yes, THEM too, so she said!!) and had to give it up after less than a week! Stopped her grinding her teeth, but only because she couldn't get to sleep!!!

I really should have one... I am a very bad tooth grinder... have been known to wake up with pieces of my teeth in my mouth... I have always heard that they are rather expensive.. so I haven't looked into it.

my bf just ordered the night guard thing, so I have yet to find out how it will work on him, however he's a crazy teeth grinder while he sleeps at night, so I hope it really works, for both our sake!

Spend the money Lilith! It is worth it!!
If I would have known what I know now, I would have bought it right away!
I had the TMJ surgery. They remove the jaw from it's socket and scrap it.....It's very painfull. And I only had it done on the right side! It took a few weeks before I could actually talk right...and once you have the operation you can never "Open your mouth as wide as it used to open"!!! Ohhh and I am not kidding!! I love giving head..but there are some days that my mouth will not open as wide as I want it to go...or even just eating a banana is difficult!!
I now wear my night guard as I DO NOT want to get the other side done!!

OK well I guess I'll keep the fitting appointment. I am far too chicken to face having surgery. Diva~ Did you grind your teeth? Is that what aggravated the TMJ?

<----also has TMJ.
I'm not sure I ever got a diagnosis as to what caused it, although I know I was told that I clench my teeth at night while sleeping. It does get quite painful during extended periods of oral sex, which is a shame because I love doing that. Most of the time I'll switch positions, do something different, etc. in an effort to relieve my discomfort long enough.
Keep the fitting appointment.

Yes I did Lilith..but that wasn't the problem..everytime I chewed I would hear a loud "pop" or "crack" and it would hurt like hell..so I barely ate solid food..
I have gotten the right side done...and the left side really hurts..and I won't go for the surgery in risk that I may never open my mouth as wide as it is now... ...so, yes...keep the fitting appointment!!
I wouldn't wish the pain associated with TMJ surgery on my worst enemy!!!

My s/o has a mouth guard. She wears it every night. She actually likes it. She now sleeps at night and she wakes up in the morning and does not have a sore jaw.
