Sydney prostitutes win right to work from home

Prostitutes in a Sydney suburb have won the right to work from home.

Councillors said sex workers in Marrickville can work from home so long as they are discreet.

But critics of the scheme say it will turn the suburb into a seedy red light district.

Prostitutes will be allowed to work from home providing they work alone and do not advertise, reports the South China Morning Post.

The need for discretion means they can only entertain clients by appointment.

The impact on the area's respectability is the greatest concern to residents.

"Who wants a hooker living next door, especially if you have children?" asked one mother.

The Liberal Party, in opposition in New South Wales, has vowed to overturn the decision if elected next month.

But Marrickville councillor Sylvia Hale, who backed the move, said people were over-reacting.

"Restaurants are far more likely to have an adverse impact than this type of activity," she said

I can believe that. First of all, how can a prostitute discreetly do her thing in a public restaurant? Somebody's liable to reach for the salt shaker and get more than they bargained for. Not to mention the concern some may have by asking for cream in their coffee.

Actually, dicksbro, I think the comment has to do with service charges. Regardless of how bad the service is, a restaurant will always stick you with a service charge on your bill....
