United 93

Ive just seen on the TV a trailer for United 93. A film about the plane that the passengers attempted to take back from the hijackers on 9/11

Myself personally im having mixed thoughts about this. I was working when the WTC and Pentagon were hit and took it upon myself to keep the office informed about what was going on. I was the only one at the time that had access to a radio and had nothing to do.

What does everyone else think?

Is this film a good or bad idea?

I'm not interested in seeing it. I am not sure what really happened to that plane yet.

It was good...... I think it was just touching in a way. It wasn't political right or left, just was a good story and highlighted the confusion of that morning and what likely happened on flight 93 given the limited evidence.

The facts of what all happened on that plane are gone with the people and will never be known. A complete epic was written around a few tiny scraps of information and produced a fairy tail of how they would like us to think it may have gone down. I’m more interested in who ALL the writers are.

The NY Times did some big articles about cell phone transcripts. I think they might have been sufficient to base a screenplay on but that's all it can be -- scraps of information. From what I've read, there were heroes on that plane & I think this movie is part memorial part docudrama.

PantyFanatic,

I am under the impression that what happened on the plane was reconstructed from the phone calls made by passengers and crew through the telephones in the seatbacks and cell phones. I thought I read that several passengers and two crew members telephoned after the hijack occurred – one of the passengers made several calls.

Wasn’t that the flight where someone was heard saying "let's roll"?

I would think that at least a plausible reconstruction could be assembled from the records of the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder, these phone conversations and the forensic evidence.

Lilith,

Yes. Assuming that that was the transcript from the voice recorder, that seems like an excellent basis for a screen play.

America needs heroes, and the "plane that fought back" fits that.

The passengers appear to have at least distracted the hijackers enough to

keep them from their target. That'll do.

When the movie premiered a few weeks back, there was a lot of discussion whether this was the right thing or not...as I recall, seems the idea was ok with most of the surviving family members, altho many were not quite ready to see it...
One thing does seem clear...they knew they were doomed anyway, so they took matters into their own hands, & saved countless more lives...for that, they're ultimate heroes in my book, & deserve to be memorialized..

I went to see the movie and I would recommed that everyone in the USA see this movie. This is MHO. The movie is more about how the FAA and Millitary reacted on that morning than on the flight itself. There is some insight of what may have happened on the plane. Everyone coming out of the theatre was extremly quiet.
